What happened to the 2-3 step drop and lightning quick release

I recall in many of Romo's games against better pass rushes than the Saints, Romo was dropping back 2-3 steps and QUICKLY throwing to the open receiver. This was what we were so excited about... it seems we kind of got away from that.
