What has become of Drew Henson?

Well, I'm happy to report that the former Wolverine/Yankee/Cowboy is having a strong offseason as the Vikings' third-string quarterback.

I could give you a list of guys who've had "strong offseasons" but then you've probably never heard of them.

I enjoyed watching Henson play in NFLE. He played well and made some exciting plays. It's consistency he lacked. I wish him the best and hope he wins the #2 job.

I was the biggest Drew Henson fanatic. Anyone who says otherwise has forgotten. Pedigree is my catch phrase and my adoption of him as our potential future franchise caliber QB pissed off everyone who hated my views on QBs.

He was a failure in Dallas. I do not blame Parcells. I blame him. He had a lot of potential and he failed to live up to it. There was no conspiracy to get rid of him. I do not cling to his memory. I joke about my obsession with pedigree and franchise QBs.

My obsession has been nowhere near the megalomania of the fans of the other guy you mentioned. Nowhere near.

Don't worry, I am right there with ya. I am and was a Big Drew Henson fan, mainly I guess because I am a Michigan Fan too. But yeah, there is no ifs and buts about it, he did fail with Dallas.

Now I still do think, there was something to his whole change in machanics etc. but without excuses, unless he succeeds in Minny somehow, he is a failure so far.

my feeling is that when Henson gets his opportunity, he's going to make Parcells look like the total chimpanzee of a coach that he was.
I'm betting Jerry Jones was right about the kid and Parcells just didn't like being told that he had to take a player he didn't discover himself.
Parcells was an obsolete grouchy and obnoxious old man when he got here with a chip on his shoulder.
We'd still be stuck with Bledsoe or Testeverde had the white haired one continued on in Dallas.

Well, I'm happy to report that the former Wolverine/Yankee/Cowboy is having a strong offseason as the Vikings' third-string quarterback.

Henson's one of those guys who was granted almost superstar status based on his potential. When you're being wined and dined by The Boss at age 19, it's hard to maintain any sense of perspective. Henson signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Yankees and quickly became friends with guys like Derek Jeter.

When Henson decided to walk away from baseball and return to football, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was the first in line to trade for him. And when Quincy Carter was released early in the 2004 training camp, suddenly Henson was the backup quarterback for the Cowboys (If Carter doesn't get cut, the legend of Romo may have never gotten off the ground).

Henson started one game that season, and wasn't given the chance to finish it after throwing an interception for a touchdown against the Bears. From what I'm told, former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells never had any faith in Henson based on conversations he'd had with his friend and Yankees manager Joe Torre.

Parcells has tremendous respect for Torre and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, and he's going to strongly consider any information they give him.

The Cowboys changed Henson's delivery, and then sent him to play in NFL Europa before the 2006 season. Henson performed well overseas, but Parcells said the Cowboys had hoped to see more and it became obvious his days in Dallas were numbered.

Now, Henson is in a place where he's not expected to save the franchise (give it a half-season). If memory serves correct, Vikings' head coach Brad Childress' wife used to babysit Henson when he was a kid.

He loves the organization, and there's no reason he can't challenge Brooks Bollinger for the No. 2 role behind Jackson.

This entry is dedicated to e-mailer Brian M., who has e-mailed me at least three times per week asking for updates on his favorite former Cowboy, Henson.

I have to break away for a non-blog assignment. Be back in about an hour.

Behind Jackson? What has Jackson ever done? Ever? He is a small college QB who has never shown anything at this level. Now, he may, but I think it's fair to say the Vikings starting QB job is wide open.

Henson has failed at everything he has tried since he left Michigan. Why should anything change now?

I'd have to imagine it was quite the topic of discussion.

He looked beyond mechanical with that new motion.

In NFLE, (I watched every game) he looked at his best when plays broke down. When he stood in the pocket, he look so deliberate it was almost odd looking.

I hope he does well with the Vikings.

I always admired his ability and truly respected him when he went to NFLE.

You are to Henson what Nors is to Bledsoe.

Hi. I'm Tony Romo. Have we met?

Way to use your critical thinking cap there, sergeant.

That is pretty hard to imagine.
