Franchise him and then trade him. Whatever Dallas gets is better than nothing. IDK if its possible to even do that with Dallas cap problems

Don't we get additional picks if he signs elsewhere? He should be pretty expensive so that would be a high one.

Same with Jenkins and to some degree Felix.

There is danger to that. You have to carry that salary until you trade him.

It's the same reason why the Packers ultimately decided they couldn't risk franchising Matt Flynn just so they could trade him. The offchance that they couldn't trade him made the concept too risky.

Compensatory picks depend on the difference between who we lose and who we sign on a contract basis.

If we let Spencer walk, it is possible that we would get no compensatory picks at all.

They would be picks in 2014, by the way. You probably know that, but it always seems to come up, so I thought I'd throw it out there in advance.

I know, i think its risky, But i dont see Dallas making too much headlines in FA. So i think they could handle franchising him and trading him. I dont think it would be take long to trade him. doubt this happens tho. He'll probably just go into FA and get signed for 60 mil somewhere

If we can find the cap space, the risk reward would be in our favor. At worst you have a starting SAM backer or base de and 3rd down rusher in Spencer. That is different that risking $15mm on a backup qb.
