The holes were huge last week. Darren McFadden lacks burst and vision consistently, IMO. Half of our running plays last week look like they are potentially long runs until I see our RB do something stupid, like run into traffic or go down with the touch of a fingertip.

If we can break one damn tackle there's a whole bunch of yards there for us.

A young strong/quick back like Gurley would have ran for 200+ last week with this blocking.

Romo is our best chance to improve the running game at this point.

The Cowboys running game isn't trash though, they actually have a nice run game it's the defense one week then the offense the next that messes everything up. This article reads like another Murray nut hugger who refuses to move on, despite the fact that Murray has been average at best in PHI.

Oline took steps back this season. Rb talent is less than last year.

The Jones Boys !!!!!!
They "fixed" the RB situation !
They didnt need Murray, any back will do.
All the money went to Dez, Crawford, and Hardy, worked out pretty good.

Tampa played our run game very well. There was even a thread on here where someone went through and charted all our runs and what happened on them. There were only a couple where McFadden didn't get what was there.

We couldn't pass them out of it and so they just keyed in our run game. That's all there is to it. It doesn't matter who the RB is when teams don't respect the pass.

The biggest difference this year is very simple. Romo got hurt. After that I think you can say it took the OLine a few games into the season to gel somewhat because they didn't play as a unit in the preseason. The RB corps are weaker then last year, because none of them is as good as Murray. I think we're still a top 5 running game if we've had Romo the last 7 games. So in the long run I think the correct answer is regression to the mean. We weren't going to have the #1 rushing game two years in a row without a running QB to add in yardage, Matt "Fleet foot" Cassel not withstanding.

According to some though, it's all about execution not, scheme. Romo just hands the ball off in this situations, so what exactly is he going to do. If the defense knows it's a running situation, then it doesn't matter who the guy is back there. It's not like we are throwing via play-action, even with Romo in.

We still didn't block that well the first two games. Many were saying it was Leary being out and Zach having that neck injury. So let's not flip-flop by saying it's all Romo being out. He can only mask so much incompetence.

Also, McFadden has a groin injury now as well, which probably explains a deterioration in play last week.

With Romo in, it may lead to some sloppiness and an adjustment period and the Cowboys aren't going to face a slouch in Suh. That guy totally wrecked our line in the play-offs last year. Somebody tracked when Suh was in as opposed to out and it's clear Suh was dominating.

By the way, the author clearly points out Romo being out as one of the main reasons.

I went through every run on the All-22 twice before i posted. It was Mcfadden. He left huge chunks on the field. The only time our line looked bad is when they blitzed more then we could block. Thanks for your input though.

McFadden will look a lot better once Turbin starts getting more carries and he's not getting 97% of the carries. He played an excellent game today.

Not much is wrong with our run game today. McFadden put up 136 yards with a 4.4 avg and Turbin had 35 yards w 5.0 avg. That's against a stout dolphin interior lef by Suh ( who isn't really worth the 100 million).

The O-Line hasn't been the problem. People just like to point out Callahan because it provides the narrative 'dumb Jerry letting a good coach go.' Callahan wanted to leave and the run game in Washington hasn't exactly been tearing it up this year. Meanwhile, nobody has really regressed under Pollack other than Free (mainly due to fighting a foot injury and the regression is slight anyway) and Leary (who had a groin injury). But, La'el Collins has stepped up to change positions and played probably better than any rookie O-Lineman in the league.

The loss of Romo was huge. Last week there weren't many running lanes because the Bucs just stacked the A-Gap and blitzed because Cassel couldn't beat the blitz. Plus, the play calling, particularly what run plays are called has been quite bad.

The bigger issue was that Randle shouldn't have been the starter and McFadden shouldn't have been the #2 RB. Randle showed he can play #2 RB and McFadden has never shown to be a #2 RB (needs carries). Instead, the brilliant Garrett and Linehan decided to do just that and it backfired. And then the entire 'Bill Callahan left, the O-Line is doomed!' rhetoric got out of hand.
