I am a Cowboys fan. But I haven't allowed my emotions to be adversely affected by the performance of the Cowboys for many years. So, although I am disappointed in the performance of the Cowboys vs. the Packers, I am not even close to being as devastated by their loss as I once might have been, or many fans are today.
What the Cowboys loss means to me is that the NFL season ended this weekend. I couldn't care less about the rest of the teams in the NFL, or who ends up winning the Super Bowl, if it's not the Cowboys. I don't even care if the Eagles win - because I am only interested in the Cowboys. I don't care about the Cowboys' rivals and opponents, nor do I hate any other teams. That would require an emotional investment I am not willing to make.
I used to hate the team in Washington D.C., but since they changed their name, I consider them an expansion team, and don't ascribe to that team the history of their rivalry with the Cowboys when I was a child and a younger man before Dan Snyder bought that team. When I was growing up, the Eagles and Giants were never good, so I never developed a hate for either of their teams.
The downside of this lack of emotional investment is that I don't ever get as excited as I used to get over the Cowboys winning. But on the other hand, the Cowboys haven't given any of us much to be excited about for the last almost 3 decades.
