I've seen a lot of topics on TV/Movies like guilty pleasures, top 20, but all married folks know the battle. What is the common ground for TV or Movie night? What can both of you watch? There's always a compromise and you have to "share" the experience with something. Or you just avoid it like the plague.

For me, my wife loves those Downtown Abbey shows. I have such little interest in them, I can't even name the spin-offs other than Guilded Age, but you know what I'm talking about. All those British (or I guess American) 1800's, early 1900's drama series. She has seen Downtown Abbey at least 2-3x and she is always game for the newest genre addition on the streamers. I'll watch the Woody Allen or romantic Europe flix with her, but I won't go down the Downtown Abbey road. (No pun intended)

Flipping the coin, my wife refuses to watch any horror movies, which I love, even the cheesy ones. And it's definitely hard to convince her to watch some of the more crass shows like Peacemaker on HBO/Max which is definitely one of my favorite shows right now.

On a positive note, my wife does love Avengers and Star Wars movies. So that's usually not a problem convincing her to see the newest box office smash.

The wifey loves cop shows and mysteries. I am fine w/ most of them, except for those really cheesy ones on Hallmark or Homesomething channel. I absolutely cannot stand Candace Cameron. Aurora Teagarden. Ick.

My wife is a big fan of Castle reruns but I have never really gotten into that show, even with Stana Katic. She switched to it just a few minutes ago. Joy.

Scooby-Doo is her favorite all-time cartoon series, which I can barely tolerate. Strangely enough, she shares my distain for Scrappy Doo and skips those featuring that mutt.

I grew up collecting comics. We met just before her eighteenth birthday. She "took possession" of my collection, reading a good bit of it. It does not surprise me how much she enjoys most superhero movies. What does surprise me is that I catch her rewatching many without me. For example, I have watched Captain America: The Winter Soldier around a dozen times. My wife has likely seen it twice as often as I have.

We both enjoy anime, although she prefers lighthearted stuff and I lean more towards dramatic titles. We go on short The Big Bang Theory binges all the time.

My wife watches 'reality' shows like Sister Wives, the one with the Duggers, that one with a couple with loads of daughters etc.

Dont get them. Most of the shows seem to be people doing everyday boring things and talking about nothing.

My wife has watches Match Point and Fatal Attraction every time they are on TV just about. I hate those movies. Then she watches Sex and the City which to me is just an awful show about awful selfish people. She watch this latest remake "And Just Like That..." which has to be the most ridiculous TV show ever made. But, I am sure she says the same thing about the movies and TV I watch.

Real House Wives of any freaking county. Why gather around to watch obnoxious pretentious women vacation together and fight? She says the same to me about watching Diners Drive Inns and Dives though. She'll ask why I watch people cook food you want but cant have? I tell her the same reasons I watch porn.

We are cord cutters.
We watch a LOT of Youtube

She has some subjects or channels she likes to watch that I do not care for. Usually involves people who I call LOUD talkers. Also for some reason she likes watching people who do competitive eating.

But I can't say much as she does not like some of the channels or subjects I like to watch.

I tolerate whatever she wants, because I’d rather have her in the room, happy. She doesn’t like/permit action flicks like John Wick or Kingsmen, raunchy comedies like Old School, The Hangover, Kingpin, etc., or sports. I’ll watch my stuff when she’s sleeping or not at home. The only sports I watch are Cowboys or Penn State games, which I tell her about in advance. When a game comes on, wifey and my youngest daughter give me eye rolls and heavy sighs, then sequester somewhere else. It’s like football releases foul smells and dangerous radiation.

Wifey watches multiple episodes of Call The Midwife, Outlander, Little House, and YouTube videos like Living On A Dime. She also watches Masked Singer and American Idol. I play on my phone. Daughter loves those shows with a group of nerds listening for ghost farts with strobe lights. They never see anything substantial, but they pump the drama. Yawn, chuckle, rinse, repeat.

Never had that problem. if I didn't turn on the TV, she didn't care, preferred to read and listen to music. So, any shows we watched we're driven by me.

She didn't grow up around the TV like I did. Hell, if I hadn't watched "our shows" with my parents, the only interaction we would have had was when they grounded me....from TV.

What is interesting is that the TV shows I grew up watching like I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Burns & Allen, Andy Grifith, Bewitched, Dick Van Dyke and Father Knows Best, I cannot watch now without getting melancholy and missing watching them with my parents and laughing. It's just not the same at all. It's not a fun nostalgic trip.

Yeah, my wife is not a sports fan. I always give her a heads up too. She tolerates the Cowboys because she loves me. She may watch an end of game or big play if I explain what is happening, but that's about it. The only sports I've seen her hang around longer are NBA and surprisingly, boxing. I think the boxing is only because she grew up with a bunch of big brothers into that.
