There was a pretty good debate going on the ticket earlier as to who should be the next head coach of the dallas cowboys and a lot of good arguments were made. They talked about the pros and cons about some of the following.

A) A current Head Coach - Going to require compensation. IE - Jeff Fisher/ Bill Cowher. Obvious Pros - Proven success at the NFL level. Obvious Cons - Costly draft picks. Multiple picks at that.

B) Current NFL assistant / Coordinator (No previous HC experience) IE - Rex Ryan/ Ron Rivera Obvious Pros - Proven successful at the nfl level as an assistant. Obvious Cons - No guarantee they will be successful as a head coach.

C) Current NFL assistant / Coordinator (With previous HC experience) IE- Norv Turner/ Wade Phillips. Obvious Pros - Successful at the nfl level and a 2nd shot at a HC gig could prove Belichick like. Obvious con - Given a 1 shot already and werent very successful.

D) Current College Head Coach (No NFL HC Experience) IE - Bob Stoops / Kirk Ferentz. Obvious Pros - Great college coach - could be the next big thing in the NFL. Obvious COns - Lots of recent college coaches havent faired so well in the NFL.

So What is you choice?

Of the available candidates, B. The candidates with coaching experience don't impress me. Not that they can't do better given another chance, but there demeanor doesn't appeal to me. I would prefer C, a new face with a towering presence like Ron Rivera. We need a coach with some fire in his gut. I really would have liked Ken Whisenhunt, but Arizona got him. :(
I also would prefer a defensive coach compared to an offensive coach because I'm still a believer that defense wins championship and that's where are investment has been over the past few years. We need a coach that can maximize the talent on the defense. I don't think it was the players. I think it was the coaching strategy. Several times, players had pleaded with Parcells to open up the defense and he refused to do so. You mean to tell me that the Cowboys could stop the Colts but no one else? I think that had more to do with conservative play calling than anything.
We need a no-nonsense coach. And someone who can grow with the franchises with no previous baggage.

Of course A is the obvious choice but I dont want to lose any picks either unless its for Cowher and I think hes gone for at least a year.

I'd like to bring in a coach who is a Defensive Coordinator because I believe DC's make the best head coaches.

I believe DC's know how to orchestrate games better and put both the offense and especially the defense in a position to have success.

That is my problem with Mike Martz... I dont believe he gives all phases of the game a chance to succeed.

Its going to be very interesting to see who we hire.
