What would you do?

I have an australian shepard that can jump straight up in the air 8 feet. Today she jumped the fence and ran into the neighbors driveway; happened to be at the moment a regular visitor to her house was leaving. instead of stopping or honking at my dog they sped up and tried to hit her. My dog jumped over the car and came running back to me. My intitial reaction was to run over there and rip them out of the car and stomp them into the dirt. Cooler heads prevailed and I held myself back but I am still seething and unsure how to deal with the whole thing. yes my dog shouldn't have gotten out, and she will now find herself living in the garage most of the time if she is not in the house with me. But trying to run over your neighbors dog is probably one of the crappiest things I have ever seen. So how would you handle this?

You could beat the tar out the guy but he'll still heal and be just as stupid as before.

Plus it's not like the good old days where you beat the crap out of someone and that's it...Today, you do it, and tomorrow someone is at your doorstep with a shotgun.

So for me, I'd be thrilled that I still had the pooch. That's the priority.

Now that's not to say I would take a swing but it wouldn't be planned. If it happens so be it. But mostly, I'd just try to be real happy that my dog was ok.

report an attempted animal abuse to the animal cops im sure they could do something if no, cival law?

if they had run over your dog in the street and dinged their car, they could have held you liable to fix the damages to their car. Ive seen it happen.

Try getting one of those in ground electric shock fences.

i bought on of those electric collars and buried the wire

the fence is 12 feet tall taller fence was not an option.

she gets a unning start then just kinda doube jumps off it and bam she is over.

my liability is not a concern, my neighbor trying to run over my dog on purpose was the concern.

... and Juke has one of the best on fixing stupid. You really can't choose your neighbours, but ending up in jail won't help you either.

You've addressed the fence, you bought devices...maybe you could try another approach and train your dog. I know I've had struggles with our pooch in discipline, but enrolling in a good dog training course helped us.

Bottom line is the pooch means something to you and it really is your responsibility. Try your best to take that powder keg away from your neighbours' firecracker.

yes, but it wasnt even your neighbor, it was someone visiting your neighbor. You have no control over that.

The only thing you can control is your own dog. i dont know what else to say.

my neighbor just got a new puppy about 1 year ago, i live in the city so i have a 3 foot alley alongside my house to get to the backyard. everytime i go to walk back there this dog is jumping and nipping at me, the dog is an akido husky type, very large. for some reason thg dog doesnt attack my roomates but goes nuts when i come out of the house.

3 feet is not a lot of room, i have to walk agaisnt the side of my house with a rubber trash can between me and the dog and the dog is chewing the trash can the whoile way down the aisle. what a pain this is. i like my neighbors so i am not going to go over there and give then a hard time, and their son bought the dog. the parents are not that healthy and aging so they cannot control the dog and the son works 2 jobs. so the dog gets let out to poop, there is hardly any yard for a dog that size, its just not a good place for the dog to be.

But if that dog jumps the fence and attacks me i am going to have to do something to defend myself. the whole neighborhood is complaining about thy dog at this point. a neighbor two doors down from me has 3 little kids and says he will take the dog out if it comes over into his yard (he's a cop so he's carrying a peice most of the time). Now i dont think it will come to that, i think its just a big dog with a lot of energy as it is still a puppy and caged up a lot. its just a bad situation for that kind of dog to be in.

But you dont want a bigger problem to emerge out of this. honestly, the fact that the dog has escaped numerous times and someone tried to run it down tells me your neighbors are already upset with your dog. gotta take care of this somehow before it escalates into a major problem or someone gets hurt.

wow, sounds like everyones pooch is roaming around. you must live in suburbs or rural area. thats all good if everyones friendly. i grew up in a rural area and everyones dog ran free and no one complained. there were no streets nearby, it was a 1/4 mile trek down some dirt road to get to our house. everything was just cool with our neighbors and all.

though my friend had this dog that would steal kids lunch bags while they waited for the bus, a black lab. the thing was so fast and quiet it would come out of nowhere, snatch a bag lunch and take off with it. some kid would be crying and chasin the dog while we watched it dig in to their food. that always made me laugh so hard, i always bought my lunch at school so i was never a victim, but it would happen EVERY DAY and some kids never caught on, it was funny though.

One kid missed the bus one day chasin after the dog to get his lunch back. funny stuff.

town of 2000 about two hours north east of dallas.

your story reminded me, I had this dog show up on my doorstep out here, very skinny but potentially beautiful dog. He looked like a pure white german shepard and had blue eyes. Anyways I felt bad for him and let him in the yard and he started hanging out with my dogs and with me for a couple weeks. The part about this dog that was hilarious was he would steal peoples shoes off their front porch and put them on mine. Every morning a new pair of shoes or sandles would appear on my porch and everytime I would laugh till I cried. One day this 20 something chick was limping by the house and I thought wow she is kinda cute I wonder why she is limping so badly. I look down and she has one shoe on. And sure enough a the day before, fella(thats what I called the dog), had dropped off the other shoe she was missing on my porch. I literally giggled about it for a month. I still laugh just thinking about it. And no I didn't give her the shoe back because by that time it was shredded and spread across the pasture. Fella dissappeared a week later though. I still wonder what happened to him, he had moxy.

Thats a great story. yeah, how could you mention anything to her when the shoe was all chewed up.
