In Vela's blog he mentions the Fabini signing. But then goes on to discuss the apparent Broncos interest in trading their 2 picks in the first round of the 06 draft. Now he has no indicaiton Cowboys and Broncos are talking, but he suggest this scenario:

Cowboys trade their 18th pick in first round, their 17th pick in 2nd round and their 07 first round pick to Denver (Cowboys value points is 1710). In return Denver sends us their 22nd & 29th picks in first round of 06 along with their 61st pick in 2nd rounded of 06 (value worth is 1712). Vela asks if reader would make that trade. My answer is heck yes. With those 2 first round picks, we could get Bobby Carpenter/Manny Lawson & best OT at that point and with their 61st pick in 2nd round, we could pick up FS/WR/? Realize we'd be without first rounder in 07, but we'd have 2 players who contributed in 06. What do you think?

We would still have our own 2nd rounder to pick up one of the WR or FS with also. Four picks in the first two rounds could really go a long way to building this team into a contender for some years to come.

Maybe it's just the thought in the back of my head that someone like Brady Quinn or Calvin Johnson could fall, but no. I realize that having picks between 20-50 are the most valuable in this draft, one of the deepest in years, but I just have that hope that we're in position to get one of these guys. Unlikely? Yeah. But, I can hold out hope.

What are Denver targets in draft?

WR?
RB?
What?
If DeAngelo Falls or top WR still on board. All that value stuff goes out the window. teams will trade whatever to get the player they are in love with

I'd be for it because we would just basically be trading a first-round pick next year for a first-rounder this year. Nice to get the pick a year early.

I wouldn't do that deal. No first rounder next year? Even if we are picking at 32. :D

This is the dumbest thing I ever heard of.

In the first place, why would Denver want out first rounder THIS year? They are considering trading their first rounders because they don't have the cap room to sign 'em. With our #18 they be paying MORE money than they would for their #22.

Also, the points don't add up. When you trade a THIS years pick for a NEXT years pick, the going rate is that the NEXT years pick must be a round EARLIER than the one you traded. In other words, if Denver gave us a SECOND round pick this year, we'd have to give them a FIRST round pick next year.

Yes, I know that there ISN'T a pick earlier than the first round, but you have to make that up by adding ADDITIONAL picks.

So....any trade with Denver (for ONE of their first rounders) would have to look like this: We give Denver our first and third next year for one of their firsts this year.

If we wanted their other first rounder, we'd have to give Denver our 1st,
2nd, and 3rd in 2008.

We'd have 3 first rounders this year, but no 1st and 3rd next year, and no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in 2008.

we could use those two draft picks to trade up to NO spot and draft a safety cough cough Mike huff cough cough

If we trade up that far, we might as well get Leinart/Ferguson/or Hawk.

We could trade out of the 1st round and pick up a teams 2nd and next years 1st like we did to get Julius Jones (if we found a buyer)

Then turn around and give both next years 1st and 3rd, + this years 3rd to Denver for both their number 1s this year. That would give them 3 1st rounders and a 3rd next season, and a third this season - we would have both of their 1st rounders, our 2nd rounder for trading out, and our original 2nd rounder.

We could then take Ellis and trade him for a 3rd straight up.
That would give us:
2 - 1st rounders
2 - 2nd rounders
1 - 3rd rounder.

With those picks I would get:
1.OLB - M.Lawson
1.G - M.Jean-Gilles
2.FS - J.Allen
2.OT - A.Whitworth
3.WR - T.Watkins
5.NT - J.Littlejohn
6.OLB - J.Parish

Starters:
Bledsoe
J.Jones
T.Owens
T.Glenn
P.Crayton
J.Witten
Fabini
Rivera
Johnson
Gilles
Adams

Ferguson
Spears
Canty
Ware
James
Ayodele
Lawson
Newman
Henry
Allen
Williams

Vanderjagt
McBriar

I can dream. :p:

If someone the Cowboys desperately want drops to the Bronocs spot in the first, I'd trade, but otherwise I think it's wise to just hold on. Too many old and cheap players in free agency. Some of them won't work out, we'll need those draft picks next year.

I personally think a trade DOWN with Indianapolis makes a lot more sense. Indy will be looking for a RB to replace Edge. At 18 one should be available between Deangelo Williams, Lendale White, and Lawrence Maroney.

We could still probably get the OLB we need at #30, and could add a late 2nd rounder or perhaps a 3rd and 4th by moving down.

At this point in time we need more picks not less. Stockpile them and let's get on with the winning.

LOL...as soon as I saw the title to this post that is all that came to mind...LOL

TO's worth two first rounders...right...?...LOL

The only way I'd trade for those two picks is if we held onto our #18 this year. Give us 3 first rounders.

Josh, Calvin Johnson won't be eligible for the draft until 2007.

If he comes out in 2007 then I am all over him like a rash. :)

I think that the Broncos are desperate and they really have no choice.

I would keep the swap in THIS draft. The Cowboys 1st(18th) and 2nd(17th) this year for the Broncos two 1st's(22nd & 29th).... maybe throw in a player that we are dumping or something....

No way do I give up a first rounder next year for 2 low first rounders
