I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've gone with Dell for every home and laptop I've ever owned to this point, but want some options that I might be overlooking.

I'm looking at a 17" monitor, and it's going to need at least a 4 hour battery life. Mostly going to be doing word processing work for my novel and school. I don't need any tech support packages, I do my own stunts.

What brand do you currently own? Where'd you buy it? Pros? Cons?

Apple folks need not apply.

I've bought all my development laptops from Dell.

With that being said, Dell has really fallen by the wayside when it comes to quality control.

Take a look at Lenovo. I really like their products.

Their consumer lines are junk (coming from someone who buys Dells everyday for work). If I buy a computer for myself I buy a corporate line pc.

The consumer support sucks big time. Corporate support is much better.

Haha. I bought mine from Wal-Mart :). My Dell crashed on me the day the warranty ended and Dell wouldn't do anything about it. Don't go with Dell.

I needed a laptop quick because I had a presentation to finish and most other stores were closed so I quickly bought an Acer at Wal-Mart. This was right when Windows Vista came out.

I actually still have this laptop today and it is chugging away like its brand new. I want the thing to die because I want a new one though :D

Not that I'm suggesting Acer but a lot of people give Acer a bad rap and its not deserving in most cases.

I had a Dell Inspiron that my cuz'n busted up.

My work laptop is a lenovo. Works fine. Just don't like the one my job gave me because it's smaller than my last work laptop.

My personal laptop is an HP. I bought it directly from HP.com.

The laptops on newegg.com and other sites were about the same cost-wise on hp.com.

The cheapest one available Dell.com, Best Buy or Microcenter.

I use laptops for word processing and the internet. The cheapest on the market are sufficient for those.

On a somewhat related note, I bought an iPad a couple days ago. Fantastic device.

I'm really trying to resist the urge to buy one of those.

I bought a netbook in Dec so that helps.

I never buy the first iteration of a device. I like to wait for the bugs and kinks to be worked out.

I played with one. Awesome device.

The last laptop I bough was from an Apple Store.

The last PC lapton I bought was from Dell.com. I got it 6 years ago and it still works like a champ. I love my Macbook Pro, but I won't get rid of my Dell.

I had a Dell a while back. Damn near everything went out within two years.

DVD drive, hard drive, even the monitor went out. I have a handful of friends who had Dells and they all went out in one way or another.

I won't touch another Dell. Unless it's Michael Dell, in which case I might go to jail for beating the ever-loving **** out of him.
