This is a slow, boring time of year, so let's try this:

List some places where you've stood .... places that are unusual, places that are important to you, or places that not everyone has been to.

-- John Wayne's gravesite

-- The ranch house in southern Arizona where John Wayne's "McLintock!" was filmed

-- The sidelines at Texas Stadium

-- Head coach's office at Valley Ranch

-- On the grassy knoll

-- Press row at the old Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

-- My great-grandparents' homestead -- a half-dugout house in the sandhills of eastern New Mexico

-- Next to the tree where Clint Eastwood's character was hung in "Hang 'em High"

-- In front of the microphone in the Norman Petty Recording Studios in Clovis, N.M., where Buddy Holly recorded most of his hit songs

Well Let see where have I been?

I was totin' my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load
If you're going to Winnemucca, mack, with me you can ride
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land"

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

I've been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo
Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow
Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa
Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama
Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor
Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo
Tocopilla, Barranquilla and
Padilla, I'm a killer

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

I've been to Boston, Charleston, Dayton
Louisiana, Washington, Houston
Kingston, Texarkana, Monterey, Ferriday
Santa Fe, Tallahoosa, Glen Rock
Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa
Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee Spirit Lake
Grand Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake

I've been everywhere, man
[ Johnny Cash Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
I've been everywhere, man
Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

I've been to Louisville, Nashville
Knoxville, Ombabika, Shefferville
Jacksonville, Water ville, Costa Rica
Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield
Shreveport, Hackensack, Cadillac
Fond Du Lac, Davenport, Idaho, Jellicoe
Argentina, Diamontina, Pasadena
Catalina, see what I mean'a

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
Across the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

Pittsburgh, Parkersburg, Gravellburg
Colorado, Ellensburg, Rexburg Vicksburg
El Dorado, Larrimore, Atmore, Haverstraw

Great list ... I love aircraft carriers. I forgot to add that I've been on the USS Midway (which is now like a floating museum in San Diego Bay).

I love Warships. I forgot, I've been on the Intrepid Aircraft carrier too which is docked in Manhattan as a museum. Whats really cool is it has an SR-71 Blackbird parked on it's deck! :)

It's a HUGE picture, so I will only link to it.

I think about this in different terms than just places. So my answers will be a little strange.

In a gondola of a hot air balloon.

In a burning building holding a fire hose.

In front of a wedding party performing a wedding.

Under a desk, clutching a beautiful girl for an hour during a tornado warning.

In utter fear, with my hands above my head, as a Tucson police officer had his Glock pointed at my head.

Watching as a police officer from another country used an M-16 to bash a prisoner in the face.

On a rival football field, looking up at a hostile crowd and thinking, we are going to shut you up today.

In the middle of a circle of bodies acting as a human shield trying to get me to safety.

Two feet away as a Doctor pronounced a 4 hour old baby dead after I had revived that baby 3 times.

Looking down at a skeleton in a grave that turned out it was over 400 years old.

In the back of a car holding a woman's head whom I thought had whiplash, only to find out later her neck was broken and she would walk again.

In a boxing ring over someone I had knocked out.

On a search and rescue for three men lost in the mountains and later in a sleeping bag clutching one man whose core temperature was 84 degrees, trying to keep him alive.

In a stock pond diving down for a drowned illegal alien.

In a cave tying a rope around the body of a fall victim.

In front of someone to tell them that a loved one was dead.

In front of a Federal judge pleading for a friend whom I think was wrongly convicted.

At the grave of a man I admired very much looking at his wife, children, and grandchildren trying to assure them that this life is not all there is.

In a dimly lit, hastily constructed "movie theater" introducing a documentary movie to the ancestors of some of the men involved in the History that unfolded.

In the passenger seat of General Black Jack Pershing's fully restored Chrysler staff car waving at parade watchers.

On the ground with my arms over my face, seeing a bull's back feet hit the ground on either side of my head and realizing, "that was my last ride."

In a 12' by 12' cinder block room with concrete floors and no A/C thinking that Paul Harvey just gets it.

I am pretty sure you mean Jim Morrison. I don't think Van Morrison is dead. Unless I missed it.

not as severe as those but kind of similar. november of last year i was in hamburg in germany to support celtic in a europa league game. they only opened one turnstile for the 4,000 or so of us so there was obviously massive queues building up and people were getting impatient (folk at the back trying to push forward to try and get in, nothing violent) as the game had started. anyway the german police decided the best way to control this was to have the riot police charge us with batons and dogs. luckily they only went for a few dummy charges stopping a few yards away from us with the dogs straining at the leash but considering we were backed up against a steel fence it was pretty scary. glad i was drunk at the time or it would have been scarier.
they ended up opening another couple of turnstiles and there was no problems just for anyone who wants to make hooligan jibes ;)

glad he enjoyed it. couple of things i'd comment on:
firstly the bagpipes, its all about the situation. unlikely you'll want to sit and listen to them while you're having your dinner but to me theres not a more emotional instrument on the planet. my uncles funeral up in uist i was holding it together right up until the lone piper. now granted we'd just buried my uncle, the wind was blowing in my face, the cemetery is a stunning spot looking over a small loch over to the hills in one direction and out to sea the other but the pipes just fitted the sorrow of the moment perfectly and the tears well rolling down my cheeks. alternatively before a scotland rugby or football match the bapipes get a 60,000 strong crowd on their feet roaring the team on.
castles, he should have gone to eilean donan castle. absolutely love that place, every time i go i'm struck by just how stunning it is.
Eilean+Donan+Castle_+Loch+Duich_+Scotland.jpg

kilts, i wouldn't say most men have them. personally i've got 2. neither my brother or father have one and probably around 50% of my friends own one.
scenery is stunning, roundabouts are a nightmare, why would you care about neon shop signs? oh and poor amy, tennents lager is not a nice drink! its ok, i'll often drink it but usually only if out for the night. if its just a couple of beers then i'll pay a little extra and drink european beer. the breakfast is maybe once a week but we do eat it and as for haggis i don't get why people seem to think its a gimmick for tourists that we laugh if you order it. i eat it fairly regularly and honestly its one of my favourite meals. langoustines are amazing (go to the green seafood hut at the pier of you're ever in oban) but i wouldn't say they're worth a transatlantic flight!

thanks for sharing that though bud, interesting to see how others see us
