So last year there were a few surprises revealed on our draft board. Several players were in our top 20 that were higher than on most public rankings. Cine at 13, Smith at 15, Daxton HI’ll at 18, and Breece Hall at 19. Who are 4 surpise players that will be ranked in this year’s top 20. These are my 4:

Drew Sanders- Long, athletic, productive. If his combine is as good as I think it will be, he’s going to be a riser. His best football is ahead of him. Needs to get bigger and stronger but the end product could be a heck of a player.

John Schmitz - The tape don’t lie. Was not a better OL in the country last year. I think he’s the best lineman in the draft.

Jahmyr Gibbs-The Alvin Kamala comparison is legit. I think even more explosive. He’s going to destroy the Combine. I think he’s a top 15 player on our board.

Calijah Kancey- There is an asterisk here. The measurements will be key. If he’s 6 ft flat, 280 and withe decent arm length, watch out. His tape shows an explosive player with terrific hands and elite movement skills. And he’s a strong kid. Not Aaron Donald strong but he’s surprisingly stout. He‘s also going to kill it at the Combine.

I think this team is going to franchise Pollard so Gibbs I don’t think will be in play. Watch out for the other 3.

Good list. I agree re: Pollard. They'll franchise, which means looking for a backup in rounds 3/4 as opposed to one of the top guys in 1/2.

I'm just getting up to speed on draft stuff so I have no idea where he's ranked right now. But what about a guy like Hyatt? Weak WR draft, Hyatt offers a unique and very desirable skill that none of the others do. Perhaps he rises during the offseason and a WR needy team like us thinks he's a perfect fit

What do Tyler Smith, Hall, Cine and Hill have in common - they're all athletic freaks.

This team covets elite athleticism, and if you look at both the early rounders they drafted under McClay, and the early rounders they've targeted, probably 90% of them are stud athletes. Both the Byrons and the LVEs and the Parsons we picked, and the Jaycee Horns and the TJ Watts and AJ Terrells we were looking at. (I just considered - maybe we don't like drafting guys who go by their initials?)

I haven't watched Schmitz, but I know the other 3 guys are monster athletes. They are legit Cowboys short listers.

Sanders is a guy I'm watching... his tape reminds me a ton of Vander Esch, and I could totally see him having a Vander Esch type workout. LVE had decent but not amazing straight-line speed (4.65), but he broke the LB meter for both explosion and agility. I could describe Sanders the same way.

Don't forget Joesph and Tolbert they are athletic freaks too.
