Why are the Cowboys obsessed with mid TE’s

Year after year they draft these Tight Ends who have no separation skills. I mean they are just middle of the level TE’s who pose almost zero threat to a defense? This Schoonmaker looks slow and confused. Ferguson drops too much. Hendershot is MIA. This is a yearly problem to me. The defense is never concerned playing Dallas TE’s. Why not draft or acquire a guy who can make some athletic plays down the field or compete for a jump ball?

Bc there are like 5 of them in the NFL. Just as rare as a top QB. Schoon was definitely the wrong pick. Let me guess you wanted Pitts?

We like old school TEs who can also block, not the TE/WR hybrids. But old schoolers are a bad fit for Dak. He likes separation. Old school TEs don't get much of it.

There is really only 1 Tight End in the NFL with real separation skills: Kelce. Maybe Kittle sometimes. I'm open to suggestions on anyone else who can separate.

Tight ends really have to win through shielding defenders with their bodies, scheme/deception like bootlegs, or just finding holes in a zone, when they face that.

Would love a down the field threat but we're more worried about blocking
In 4 years, 1 deep ball to Pollard, one 60 yard TD.
I'm thinking we should try that more than once every 4 years.

Dak throws a nice deep ball now. Just keep them along the sidelines so the receiver won't be running into more coverage.

I hear you I think he throws one of the worst deep balls ever, they sail, they're underthrown etc etc

Schoonmaker was a horrible pick…tweener with very limited strength. Should have moved up for LaPorta.

That's like saying why don't they draft the next Mahomes.

Sounds good, but in reality those type of T.E.s are few and far inbetween. There's guys that get hyped to be possibly the next great one, but it takes time, development and luck to get that type of gamebreaker.

I wish someone like LaPorta fell further, as at least he had more potential to turn into a very good TE.

By the time Dallas has picked a tight end, sans this past draft, we are in the dime a dozen group. And even this past draft the top guys were long gone by their 2nd round pick. Sure, you can hope one can pan out and click with your QB like Schultz did, but he wasn't going to be blowing past a LB in the seam.

we draft in middle rounds. these guys drop because they lack certain skills like getting separation. if they had those, they would be drafted higher.

with that said, we did draft a blocking TE and a back up DT in the first two rounds.
