Why are we so in love with blocking tight ends?

I just don't get it, can we get a TE that can do it all, and get down the field. Better yet, can we ever have the thought of getting a TE that's basically like a WR? Yes a TE that can block is key, but we just put so much emphasis on it, I think if our OL blocked a little better it would help

Sure.. We could use another Jason Witten or Jay Novacek.
Thats why I wanted Kyle Pitts.

Totally agree! Gee I wonder how often the Chiefs ask Kelce to stay in and block to give Mahomes more time. The teams that usually have blocking TEs are running teams and you can't tell me Dallas is a running team. They just want Prescott to have 6 sec to throw the ball.

Blame that concept upon Bill Parcells, who tried to desperately arrive at two completely interchangeable tight ends on the level of Jason Witten. That is more flexable and useful than an extra lineman or a fullback.

This line should be good for the initial 2.0 to work any combination from that point.

Two tight ends should open up off tackle up to the outside. Much pressure on an opponent's block area? You bet...

I don't know. Yes they shouldn't have the ability to block the same as a tiny slot WR, but the NFL uses catching/faster more agile TEs today, not an extra Olineman. It is imperative the Cowboys get better at both WR and TE in the future, because this group is not going to cut it.

Then again you have to have the coaching to use them in the right way ala scheming and playcalling. Again not exactly what the Cowboys are capable of making it happen.

That’s because our offense is predicated on outdated philosophies…Dallas’ offense is stuck in the 90’s with the power running game with the blocking TE sometimes used as a hot read and WRs having to try and win their 1 v 1 against DBs.
More teams in the NFL are running more sophisticated offenses; some still retain aspects of the power running game, but employ motion and formations to dictate plays and stress the defense; the TE is used to stretch and work the middle of the field, using motion to create mismatches with LBs and DBs.
This new “Texas Coast” offense was supposed to stress the defense and make them defend the entire field, but clearly that is not the case: TP is not an every down RB; where is Deuce; where is the RPO game; where are the TEs working the seams and being isolated on LBs; where is the motion creating free releases off the LOS for the WRs. The Cowboys have the talent to do all, if not most of these things.
The Cowboys are in dire need of a bright, innovative offensive mind. JG certainly wasn’t the answer. Did KM have shortcomings…sure he did, but during his tenure the Cowboys offense was dynamic and was at the top of the NFL in scoring. Then came the Super Bowl pedigreed, offensive-minded MM, who did a deep dive on offenses during his coaching sabbatical, who has over-promised and under-delivered thus far as the de-facto play-caller. Jerry clearly prefers the re-tread or inexperienced offensive coach who rests on his past accomplishments, or lack thereof, and offer nothing new.
It is slightly nauseating at times watching other teams attacking downfield and using motion with less talent than Dallas, but that appears to be the new status quo.

First principal, the ball can be first thrown or run first...then in both, it is run. That doesn't change the number of the players on the field at one time.

The term modern has no given advantage on the field, beyond team recognition and rehearsal effectiveness in defeating specifics used.

One can roll all the excuses based on category of old or new...and write a book and see if it in fact makes any money on a free market place. Of course, don't try to sell to Hamas. They don't buy anything...

Because you see, we had this dream. We were going to just run the ball down. people's throats this season.
Unfortunately, we neglected to realize that you have to back off defenses before you can run the ball effectively.
Agreed

You also have to have a decent running back...
