This just seems odd to me , especially after seeing them look their usual selves against PHil.
How could Detroit lose that game!
Were they over confident? out coached? just had a bad day ? lol what do you guys think.

Their defense even when healthy, is average. With the amount of injuries they had, they were awful. Detroit was destined to be eliminated. Can't win with one side of the ball playing poorly

actually their defense before all the injures was better than average
Between that and Goff completely spitting the bit, there you are.

I think a healthy Lions team beats Washington as the commodes would not have scored anywhere near as many points and Goff does not feel as much pressure and does not completely choke.

IMO injuries caught up to the Lions. Goff had a bad day.

Defensively, they lost Hutchinson early on and then McNeill, two very good players on their DL.

It happens sometimes. They looked like the better team until that fumble. They were about to make it 14-3 and then disaster. Remember when the Packers beat the 49ers in the divisional round in 1995? That all but sent us to the SB. Sometimes the better team doesn't win.

Yep. And even after all that, Detroit still had a good chance to come back but decided to run a RB toss pass play that was picked. That really killed any realistic chance they had. It was the perfect storm for Washington and they took advantage.

If Mayfield doesn't botch a handoff in the wild card round, Tampa probably wins that game.

Philly had another cakewalk to the Super Bowl like they did 2 years ago. This is their 3rd Super Bowl in 7 years, two years, the lesser team won the divisional round and gave them a ridiculously easy NFC championship game, 2017 vs Vikings who needed a miracle to beat the Saints. This year against Washington. No way Philly goes on the road to Detroit and destroys them. And 2 years ago against SF, Purdy gets hurt on the first drive. The same year Giants upset the Vikings and they got a free pass in the divisional round.

Maybe because half of their team was injured?

The players playing in that game mayve gone 9-8 or 10-7 in the regular season

You're absolutely right. Going to Detroit and winning there is totally different. But I don't think any team in the history of the NFL had it easier than Philly did a few years ago. A crap Giants team and a 49ers team without a quarterback. There was never an easier path.

Attrition caught up!
Didn’t find the game surprising at all. Just stands to reason that they would have a more difficult time once they hit the playoffs!
You can defy the odds during the regular season covering your weaknesses and by exposing your opponents.
When you hit the playoffs your opponent has fewer weaknesses to expose so yours become harder to cover!
Just look what GB did to us last year taking advantage of our inability to stop outside zone runs exposed by San Fran and Buffalo earlier in the season!

As someone else stated Detroits defense was suspect even when they were healthy. Injuries caught up to them in the end, plus it doesn't help with your QB turns the ball over constantly.

Think there was a Twitter post at one time showing Detroit had like 12+ starters injured at one point and most of them on defense

It's actually a really good defense when healthy, but they lost almost everybody.

do you think that both the dc and oc who had HC jobs waiting, + the interviews, might have played a part in this loss?

Injuries, overconfidence, two coordinators who were distracted worrying about head coaching jobs. And the bad Goff showed up.

They’ve been going since camp started in July. I wouldn’t see how a 30 min virtual video affects anything. Quinn has been a high level DC for years. Who better to pick out the weaknesses of a defense with that number of 1st and 2nd string players out and exploit them. He went in with a plan and his offense executed to meat perfection!

Got too cute. They seemed to miss the part about where the Commodores run game couldn't stop a toddler on a sugar rush. They deserved to lose.
