Why do we always elect to receive after winning coin toss?

Seriously.

The offense and especially Dak always start slow.

Mike McCarthy is such an idiot when it comes to this.

Just defer.
People have their opinions on this but there have been a lot of studies and none prove that it matters.

Some coaches want to get their offense going right away, some prefer to wait and see.

I like the idea of deferring, but it does not matter. The same number of possessions. The same number of wins and losses.

It's like calling someone an idiot for liking green instead of blue.

Having the chance to not only control the final drive of the first half, but to actually score and receive the ball to start the second half is a huge momentum maker.

Teams' won-loss records over the entire history of the NFL do not say that is true.
It's a philosophy, but not a fact.

For starters, you have no idea if you'll have the final drive in the half.
Also, if you accept the opening kickoff and drive it down the opponent's throat, THAT could change the dynamic of the game right off the bat.
Or maybe your opponent is the best in the league in opening games with scoring drives....who knows.

Hey, I like receiving first too, but it does not matter, on average.

I also have heard that it makes no difference based on data. That’s a whole lot meaningful than some mythical idea about momentum. In fact, the data is the whole thing.

They do it to try to show confidence in Dak.
Thing is he proves time and time again that they're wrong in doing so.

They want to score quick on the opening drive, as part of their strategy to get ahead quick, then kill the opponent with our run game. If only it worked, consistently...

I’m am fairly confident that we too defer at times. So we don’t always take the ball.

I think they’re trying to set the tone early and correct the crazy habit of slow starts, but it never seems to work out
We’ve done it four times this year. Four punts and four three and outs.

I get what they are wanting to do.

But when it’s always, Zeke up the gut left for -1, Zeke up the gut right for 2, dump off to Schultz for 2 yards and punt. Why?

These plays should be scripted and set the tone.

Although there are studies showing it makes no difference statistically, I did find a study that found it could add just under 1 point on average to the deferring team.

Either way, in the case of Sunday's game, I think Washington won the toss and deferred (so Dallas did not defer)
