Why Fully Torn Plantar Fascia is Relatively Good News for Cowboys LG Tyler Smith

Dec 31, 2023, 7:22 pm by David Chao, MD

Dallas Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith experienced a full tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot during Saturday's win over the Detroit Lions.

While the injury is more painful initially, it is actually better for his performance than playing through a partial tear.

Smith will likely miss the Week 18 matchup against the Commanders, but will be available for the Cowboys' first round playoff matchup, according to the Pro Football Docs.

I would say a pain numbing shot in a foot that is already on fire would require a biting implement to tolerate the shot.

"With the full tear, he should be able to play through with pre-injury effectiveness..."

Hard to imagine, but great news if true! This OL needs him.

Devastating loss for a critical game @ WAS.

Who will be his replacement?

.. Same here. It's a weird pain and discomfort.
I kept mine under control with different kinds of stretching. Eventually healed too about 95%.
Dealed with mines for months. I was a heavy runner. Eventually went away once I stop running for an extended period of time.

But waking up with needles poking my feet, tight pressure of my foot, and the discomfort was alot.

In 2021 Tony Pollard had the same thing and only missed one game. I'm sure they can give Tyler something to manage the pain to get him through a three hour game in a couple weeks.

This has to be the only body part where "full tear" is good news. Other than a tooth I suppose

To be honest, Bass was run blocking as well or better and isn’t a flag mag like Tyler is.
If I am being honest Tyler is so freakishly strong the officials think he is holding when he isn't. I think he likes to maul people when he should just pancake them to the ground instead.
