First I have to give a story on how I found this internet madness. I watch a lot of internet centric TV, one gave a nod to a youtube star that is a pretty funny and off-the-wall.

So after being addicted to this youtube channel I looked at links to other normal people who are a little wacky. Eventually I looked at a link for a Japanese news story saying "next Leah Dizon" , well that is my avatar.

I am watching these Japanese stories about this girl Beckii Cruel.

Here is a link to the BBC special on her story.

BBC 3: Schoolgirl Superstar at 14 This list is wrong there are 6 parts to this and in total it is an hour almost. Look at links in the videos on the right.

Anyway this is almost disturbing in more than one way, you have to watch deep into it in order to see some of the real gray areas that the parents, the Jpop industry in Japan, and the fans take issue within.

Worst part for me is when the girl is almost mad about her #1 fan and shows a pretty grown up disposition, she is ambivalent towards it. Scary that she seems pretty grown up dealing with the attention, yet her parents take the ignorance is bliss approach.

Iinternet phenoms like this or the Antoine Dodson meme are fascinating to me. This is just another bizarre wave of micro stardom that reality tv and youtube does.

Not really sure why she got famous. But it is 2010 and the internet has changed a lot of things and made the distance between cultures/countries almost non existent. She's not dancing around in her underwear or doing anything "naughty" so its not like there's really anything wrong with it. But I'm sure a lot of her fans are well over 18.

:shrugs:

I agree there is no real good reason why she has millions of fans in Japan. She is not a good dancer, despite her mom being a dance coach. She has a pretty bad voice for singing. And if you think about it there are talented people who do sing and dance very well and never get an established career in the entertainment industry.

I love how the British guy who produced for Kylie Minogue was laughing saying , she has 12 million ppl watching her, THAT is why we are here. And if the song would be a hit only because she has followers. He basically says her talent does not matter, it is just a huge societal preemptive psychological snafu. SHe is big therefore she can turn into a performer and sell things to the masses.
