In his 12 seasons as head coach, Andy Reid has never lost a game following a bye week. This is not the time to break that streak, as this week's division matchup against Dallas provides a very real opportunity for the Eagles to get back into the playoff hunt.

The NFC East is very close and very competitive. As of the latest team rankings, the lowest-ranked team is the #14 Commanders, and only two games separate the team in first from the team in last (that is, the Eagles). In such a situation, division games take on an outsize importance in determining a team's playoff chances. Philadelphia is 2-4, but if they win here and the Commanders lose to Buffalo, the Eagles would actually move into second place in the division.

A Cowboys win on the other hand would move Dallas up to 4-3 with a 2-0 division record, making them the favorites to win the East—they go on to win the division twice as often as any other team. And it would drop Philadelphia to 2-5, leaving the Eagles with just a 3% chance to come back from the basement to win the division and only a 6% shot at a wild card berth.

A win Sunday night could potentially go a long way in burying the Eagles chances at the playoffs. It won't necassarily kill them off but it sure will make things very difficult for them.

This is a "must" win for the Cowboys from the standpoint of establishing a winning streak, which they need to do at some point. Beating the Rams then losing to Philly would be a continuation of the same pattern of .500 ball that they need to get out of. This is a statement game. They'll still be in decent shape if they lose, but they will be in great shape if they win. It's time for greatness.

If the Eagles lose Sunday night, then they would have to go 8-1 (at worse) to have a realistic chance to make the playoffs. In review of the remaining games on their schedule, I just don't see that happening. It wouldn't be "impossible," but it would by highly "improbable." At 2-5, the Eagles would likely have to win the division in order to make the playoffs.

Agree, gotta start putting some W's together! If Eagles lose this game they can only lose 2 more AT MOST the rest of the way!

Umm no. It's a big game, but we still win the division whether we lose or not. Who cares about history or the numbers, I sure as hell don't it means jack **** as far as I'm concerned. I just take a look at our schedule and I see three losses at the most. 9-7 is probably all it will take to win our weak division.

Absolutely. With the amount of **** talking I've done to Eagles fans so far, this is a must win game.

Exactly right.

From a mathematical/division standings perspective, this isn't a must win. But making a statement in this game and going on a streak would be huge from a confidence perspective. When you combine that with a 5th Philly loss, this game could go a long way to the division title.

I don't know, man. It appears that this is one of those years in which going 9-7 probably won't be enough to make the playoffs - unless that team is a division winner. There are still quite a few teams in the playoff hunt, and one of those teams has already beaten the Eagles: the Falcons. At 2-5, the Eagles would have a better chance of making the playoffs as a division winner instead of a wildcard team.

Non-divisional games remaining:
SEA
BUF
MIA
@ARI
@TB

Let's say we trip up once in those games and go 4-1. That puts us at 7-4. So we need to go 3-2 in division to reach 10-6 (probably enough). The most likely losses in division: road games @PHI and @NYG. Win one of those or sweep the non-division games to get to 11-5.

So this one's not a must-win, but if we lose it, our margin for error gets pretty small.

Forget this crap. I don't care if we're 13-1 or 1-9. I don't care if it's playoff aspirations or draft positioning on the line. I despise the Eagles. I hate them. I have utter contempt for their fans. They suck. I don't care what the records are. A game with an NFC East opponent is always a must win.

not a must win for Dallas playing a tough division favorite on the road--is close to a must win for Philly

definitely not a must win, but yes it will go a long way if the Cowboys can go get a big win in Philly. It would be huge for us & deflate the Eagles going to 2-5 after feeling good about themselves for beating the Commanders

This is a big game for both sides, without a doubt, but at this point in time I'd say it has to be even bigger for Philly. A loss here all but closes the door on the playoffs for them.

I'm wanting Dallas to win, and I don't care if it's only by 1, but if we can not only win but put a real solid game together, and beat them by double digits, that would be awesome.

What constitutes a "must win"?

Do I think this Sunday's game is a must win? I don't think it is, it isn't like losing this game will prevent Cowboys from making the playoffs or season is over.

However, I do believe that this is a very important game because it is a divisional game and to keep the momentum going, keeping pace with Giants who had one less loss, since I think Giants will win on Sunday.

It's a must win or big game if we lose

a win will eliminate the eagles and make it so we only need to beat the giants once and the weak teams to win the division.

The bottom line is that Dallas need to win five of their next six. They can pick whichever five they want, but that's what really needs to happen. Four of those six games are against bottom feeders, so really it boils down to them finding a way to beat either Philly or Buffalo. With this team, it is too much to expect anything more than 2-2 over the last four, so an 8-4 record going into those games is a must IMO.
