Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes could be in hot water with the organization with the temperature high enough for the team to possibly make an example out of him, especially if he's charged with a crime in Florida, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The report doesn't definitively say that's going to happen or being contemplated, but it theorizes that Holmes has pushed the envelope sufficiently for something to happen in the wake of his alleged drink throwing episode,Twitter skirmishes and previous domestic violence and possession of marijuana episodes.
If Holmes is charged with a crime, which could happen since the police have re-opened their investigation into a nightclub incident where the NFL player allegedly struck a woman with a glass and caused a laceration near her eye in an Orlando, Fla., nightclub, then he could find himself in an even more precarious situation.
Plus, the Steelers' image is taking plenty of hits with the ongoing sexual assault investigation into quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Milledgeville, Ga..
On Twitter, Holmes recently told a heckling fan to drink something strong enough to commit suicide.
Holmes also commented on Roethlisberger's legal issues in a radio interview on Atlanta's 790 The Zone.
"On my Twitter page, people have been hitting me up, telling me to tell Ben to stay out of nightclubs and keep him this, this and that," Holmes said. "I'm like he's a grown man, he's entitled to do whatever he wants to do. Unfortunately, the incident came about. Hopefully, it will get resolved and we can get on with our season."
More and more, that's looking like a tough proposition for a proud franchise crossing its fingers about two separate legal matters in Georgia and Florida.
