I saw this article posted on ESPN, and thought it would be a good poll question. Do you think Parcell's will retire after this season? I don't think he will, but after this season, I can see why he would be so exhausted. I don't remember a season where so many games came down to the last possession of the ball game.

Sources say Parcells is considering retirement

At age 64, the toll of another long season has Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells privately contemplating a final retirement -- even as team owner Jerry Jones is urging the coach to sign a contract extension.

A turbulent season has Cowboys coach Bill Parcells considering another retirement.

Sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the death of Parcells' brother at midseason is one of the events that has triggered the coach's thoughts of retirement.

If Parcells stays in Dallas, it's because he truly likes the team he has assembled, even though his work is not complete.

The Cowboys (9-6) won a 24-20 thriller against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday and are still alive for a playoff berth.

Dallas needs to win its final regular-season game against St. Louis to have any shot at earning one of the NFC's wild-card spots.

Parcells didn't berate his team after a 35-7 loss to the Commanders last week. He figured that approach would only make things worse for a team already feeling bad enough.

"When everybody else is killing them, it would be nice if somebody tried to lift them up," Parcells said. "The week before last they were saying that it was one of the greatest wins we'd had here against Kansas City. Now, and I don't know if this type of thing happens in Charlotte, but West of the Mississippi it's either outhouse or castle."

He's not retiring.

All I hear from Bill is how much he likes this team.

Mortensen has no clue. He pulled this story out of his rear-end.

I don't think so, but who knows with Duane, he's really a complex guy with things like this. As I much as I disagree with many of his decisions I don't want him to leave because there is only one man that I think can do the job better and he ain't coming back.

why don't you think Weiss would come back to NFL? :)

Dave,

I sure hope not. We've improved, but I had really high expectations after Parcell's signed on.

All that he had to clean up I give him high marks so far. Every coach and every gm misses on some players. Parcells will re-work the O line next season and we will be on our way in my veiw. QB is what scares me most. I like Drew and I know he will start next season but whats after that? We need to draft one IMOP.

Yeah, we do need to address the qb position for the future, but Bill doesn't seem too concerned with it. It seems that if you want to draft a great qb, you have to be lucky, and most of the time it helps to have a top 3 pick in the draft.

yeah, a top three isnt coming any time soon but thats the price we pay for Jerrys dream QBs.

Saw that article too. Listen to the post game presser on DC.com. Reporter who asked the question got an earful, LOL. Parcells LOVES these players, and this team. He ain't going nowhere.

Superpunk, I tried to listen to the press conference on dallascowboys.com, but it didn't work. Do you have another link?

It looks like they don't have it up yet. I saw it on point after show on NFL Network. A reporter asked him, as the last question, about the retirement rumor - I'll try to paraphrase his response;

"[Expletive] I don't know where you reporters get this crap, making this crap up. You want to write a story, write about these guys, OK?"

That was basically it. He also had alot of praise for the team, said that "you all" can write them off if you want, we'll keep fighting. The best press conference I've seen in a while, LOL. He was pissed when they asked him about the retirement, though, LOL.

Thank you for the recap. I like when Parcell's starts throwing some attitude around during his press conferences.

NO he won't retire. Good recap.

I do believe he will retire.

Here are possible reasons IMO

  1. I think he was close to having enough after last season(came back out of not wanting to be called a quitter by media and all)
  2. He is probably tired of dealing with Jerry.
  3. His brother dying.
  4. If we dont make it to playoffs.
  5. If we make it to playoffs and are one and done with poor showing

Yeah... but he also looked at the reporter like "How could you call me on that"??? I think it may be true and his anger was out of not wanting to talk about it now

I say no......He will finish the contract. He likes these kids.

Bill Parcells reminds a lot of Larry Brown. They are both geniuses who can make the most of mediocre talent. But both coaches are flighty and will cut their losses if they don't see winning a championship in the near future. His stint with the Cowboys has taught Parcells that winning here isn't as easy as he thought it would be. I think he knows we are a long way from truly contending for a Superbowl even if we have the ability to make the playoffs. It wouldn't suprise me if he quits if we don't make the playoffs. At his age, he can't afford to give a team several more years just to wait and see. It's just too physically and mentally exhausting especially since he has nothing to prove.
