Will Pat Watkins Start Week 1?

I think we should all get on our knees and thank whomever we consider a God, because I had this kid touted as high as a 2nd rounder at one point.

He was definitely a 3rd round choice at minimum, but for some reason, speed, verticle, height, and intelligence didn't wow the gurus. This kid so far reminds me of Randy Moss playing FS.

How anyone could've passed over Moss was beyond me, and how this many teams over that many rounds passes this kid by is beyond me, including the Cowboys. Thank God...

here's an interesting question..

if we had picked Watkins in the 2nd round, how would the results of the poll look then? for some reason, the consensus is always that a 1st, 2nd, or even sometimes a 3rd rounder should always come in and start right away, but any pick lower than that cannot.. Why? they are all rookies having to prove themselves.. I guarantee you that the Raiders are gonna be starting Michael Huff this year.. he has to learn all the same things that Watkins does.. they both come from big-time programs that played against elite competition their entire college careers.. Watkins has the pedigree and talent of a 1st or 2nd rounder.. If Watkins and Huff both play their tails off during preseason and training camp, why would the Raiders start Huff and the Cowboys not start Watkins? Cause he fell down the draft boards? the draft boards mean zero now.. everyone is assuming that Carpenter comes in and starts right away because he was a first rounder.. well what if Watkins continues playing much better than Carpenter? it's not gonna matter.. people are gonna think that Carpenter shoud start and that Watkins isn't ready.. why? cause Carpenter was a higher pick.. kinda ridiculous.. let their play decide their fate, not some draft board..

i really like Watkins but i dont think he starts at the beginning. FS is a very tough position to play especially for a rookie, as they gotta get everyone on D in the right place. But if he continues to impress he might start by midseason

I know a lot of you want Pat Watkins to start over Keith Davis, but I would also like to remind you of the big plays Davis made last year also.

My point. Watch last years highlights and watch the big hits (plural) Davis (#29) made.

Pat Watkins is only about 210lbs. He needs to be bigger and stronger. Davis is more of a strong safety (I beleive anyhow) I think Watkins can be our free safety of the future, but he isn't ready yet. He could take the job a few times this year, especially against passing teams. (Eagles, Colts, etc)
