I was looking at the standings yesterday and ya know there just aren't ANY teams in the NFC who should scare us. Injuries and a tough schedule could easily trip up the Giants. New Orleans has had a spectacular first half, fueled by a national outpouring of support, but in a division with the Falcons, Panthers and Bucs, getting to 10-6 is the hard part. I'll give Seattle the NFCW and Chicago the NFCN.
Alll we need to do to crawl in (as opposed to walking in) is win the head-to-head games with other NFC playoff hopefuls. These are Tampa, the rematch with the Giants, the Saints, Atlanta, and the rematch with Philly. Win only those 5, and I will wager now that we'd get in...
IMO the only one of those we could get away with a loss would be to the eventual NFCE champs, given we would be a wild card. But of course, I still expect that we'll win our division, so this is probably moot...

I f we beat Arizona as well, that would put us at 10-6 and definitely in.

With the Cowboys you can expect anything!! we could be in but..all of a sudden we blow it...

If you think the SAINTS aren't going to win their division then a loss to Atlanta wouldn't kill us provided they win their division. I can't see Carolina coming all the way back in that division, and that is good for us. Problem is that all the saints have to do is go 4-4 and they get to 10 wins. I agree on the West and North. We probably need to win one that we aren't favored in like the Giants, Atlanta or the Colts to get to 9 or 10.

The only reason I posted this is i think we're all somewhat doubtful of reaching 10 wins - we may or may not. But all we have to do really in this watered-down conference is beat the teams that we might need tiebreakers over and head-to-head is the big one. Thank God our last game is the Detroit Lions at home, and if we need to win that to get in, I like our chances...

Nice to have one like that at the end. Detroit will have nothing to play for and even if they did we should still win.

I felt the same way last season, that the NFC teams are all beatable, but we blew it by laying eggs at Washington and at New York. I don't mind competitive losses (although they hurt), but when you stink up the place in a game you know you have to win, it is frustrating to me as a fan. I keep waiting for this roller coaster ride to end. The Cowboys need to get on a winning streak and soon!

We've been losing competitive games since BP got here. It's beyond old already.

As of this morning, we are tied for the 6th wildcard spot with the Vikings, Eagles, Panthers and Rams. You have to believe that the Rams and Vikes will fall out of the race, and we have the tie breaker over the Panthers. If Dallas can go 9-7 or 10-6, the season should come down to that X-Mas day game against the Eagles.

this is what its come down to...

"somehow finish 9-7 and hope some other teams screw up, so we can get a wildcard"

yeah, thats really a step in the right direction after 4 years of the same coach (extreme sarcasm)

how low have we sunk here to be thinking that 9-7 and squeaking into the playoffs is a good thing?

We have regressed back to the same thinking we had when Quincy was getting high and playing QB for the Cowboys.
