Oh, how I miss XP! We had no choice but to go with Windows 7 with our latest computer, since you just can't find good new computers with XP anymore, and we wanted nothing to do with Vista. Nor do we have a bunch of money to hire someone to change them out or get a customized system. We are not up to the latest technology and we are not any kind of programmers, so we are stuck with 7. But, although it is not as complicated as Vista, it is not the same as XP. XP was without a doubt the most "non-computer tech" friendly system, the one we could most easily figure out, and one I personally will eternally miss. The only reason we have 7 is because Microsoft and the conglomerates/WalMart gods that be, forces our hands. We were strongarmed into 7 and I hate them for it.

If I was computer intelligent enough, I would scrap this Windows 7 crap and go back to the old-day bliss of XP in a New York Minute! With the exception of the personalize desktop photo feature that allows several photos to change intermittently on your desktop. That is a pretty cool feature that XP didn't have.

It's a shame Microsoft is going to quit supporting XP, in what? about a year or so?

I believe sometime in 2014, I bet if this trend keeps up they extend the date.

I still prefer XP to Win7

Not I. I definitely have grown to prefer Win7 to XP. (just for 64bit alone, I wouldn't touch XP64)

Though I did change some default settings, but I would do that in XP too. The worst thing about it was finding settings. I would look in the same place they were at in XP and they wouldn't be there.

Of course, Google is the tool to use to find any settings you can't find. I know were most are now, so it's generally not a problem anymore.

Microsoft no longer does mainstream support for Windows XP. Only extended support. That will last until April 8, 2014.

Unless you have an app that doesn't run on Windows 7, you should be switching over. There are already apps / games coming out that will not run on Windows XP and require Vista (yuk) or Windows 7.

I have to say that Win7 has less BSOD's than XP had.

I still get one BSOD a week.

Visual Studio, when compiling large projects will sometimes lockup and eventually cause a BSOD or make me hard reboot.

Other than that I like it better than XP.

I use Win7 64 at work and XP at home. I've tried getting XP64 to install just to see what the difference is but it never installs.

I've heard that from our programmers.

Wow really? The only time I've ever had Windows 7 BSOD was when I was running a World Group BBS which was made to run on WinXP. (even in XP mode, it would occasionally do this) As soon as I stopped running it, it has never BSOD again.

Windows 7 has been very stable for me.

Our entire development team runs Linux. No BSOD of them! :laugh2:

They would probably prefer using Linux, or at least one of them, but they have to use Win7. :laugh1:

Our dev team? Some have it at home. Some have Windows, Apple, and Linux at home.

My job recently made us refresh our laptops... New Thinkpads. Yay..

Anyway, I wanted Win7, but it's not compatible for the apps I use to work with running a VM. And everyone whose done that, they're computer is sloooooooow.

So I got WinXP until further notice.

I got Win7 on my personal laptop and WinXP on my personal desktop. I'm ok with that. My desktop saves me if I have compatibility issues.

I'd rather develop on Linux machines, but we have to run with what the customer wants.

The military loves them some Microsoft.
