With NFL Career In Limbo, Six-Time Pro Bowler Terrell Owens Dives Into Business

“There’s a stereotype that we’re just jocks. I’m trying to not be labeled that.” — Terrell Owens

The 15-year NFL wide receiver is still waiting for one of 32 franchises to call his name. In the meantime, though, Owens is putting his “entrepreneurial hat” on, as the Alexander City, Alabama native explained last Friday.

Owens — who has a well-documented past of financial troubles, ill-advised investments and bouts with former sports agent Drew Rosenhaus — said that he is moving forward with a focus on different business pursuits.

“Throughout my career, I thought I’ve had some people who had my best interest at heart, but they had ulterior motives,” said Owens, now 40. “…Sometimes it’s a hard pill to swallow but by the grace of God, I’m still able to understand that I’ve established a little bit of a brand for myself, and there’s more opportunities and revenue streams out there. There’s more to me than just being a football player.”

He’s now devoting his attention to a handful of sectors, including technology, apparel and fitness and home décor.

A year ago, Jon Orlando, the Director of Talent Relations at Hang W/, approached Owens to become involved with the live social streaming app, where he is currently a shareholder. A celebrity-driven mobile platform that counts 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) as one of its investors, Hang W/ allows its users to live broadcast from anywhere, anytime, up to 15 minutes. For verified users, the broadcast time expands to a full hour.

His NFL career isn't in limbo, it is over. He hasn't played since 2010, is now 40 years old and since he last played he has had to recover from a major knee injury.

Hows it in limbo? The guy hasn't played in 3 or 4 years now. He's 40 or more years old. His career in the NFL isn't in limbo.

It's over.

Wow - only a six-time pro bowler? Seems like he would have had more than that.

Well, the career is not in limbo but perhaps his financial misfortunes are. I hope he gathers himself and makes some money to support(who knows how many now) his children and ex-wives/girlfriends............................
