Adobe's Paul Betlem said Thursday that a special preview build of Adobe Flash Player--dubbed as "Square"--is available to download. The new preview build offers enhanced support for the just-released beta of Internet Explorer 9, and native 64-bit support for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

"Flash Player 'Square' leverages the new GPU support available with Internet Explorer 9 Beta to deliver a faster and more responsive user experience," Betlem said. "In our internal testing, we’ve seen significant improvements in Flash Player graphics performance--exceeding 35-percent in Internet Explorer 9 Beta compared to Flash Player running in previous versions of IE."

As for the 64-bit native support, Betlem said that Linux users should have a faster and even more reliable Flash experience than the previous version. Square also marks as the introduction of 64-bit Flash to Windows and Mac OS X, however users are cautioned to be on the lookout for any issues, as "not everything will be fully baked."

"We have made this preview available so that users can test existing content and new platforms for compatibility and stability," reads Adobe's warning. "Because this is a preview version of Flash Player, we don’t expect it to be as stable as a final release version of Flash Player. Use caution when installing Flash Player 'Square' on production machines."

To get the new Flash Player beta, head here. There are four versions to download: 64-bit Windows for Internet Explorer only, 64-bit Windows for all other browsers, 64-bit Mac OS X, and 64-bit Linux.

Users will need to keep this version up to date by manually installing updates from the Flash Player "Square" download page on Adobe Labs. There will be no automatic update notifications, and users will need to manually uninstall Square before installing the final "shipping" version.

Adobe probably has the worst programmers on the planet. They should have had a 64bit version long ago, but I'm sure it's because their programmers are so sucky that it took so long.

I bet it also has 600+ major security flaws in it too. :banghead:
