Would another year or two of Romo instead of Dak have made a difference?

Dak had a great 2016 and did ok the following years. I know Romo had back problems but he showed he was still viable and dangerous QB in that last season. Could Romo have taken that team to a Super Bowl? He was the comeback kid too and could win the big games. Let’s assume he would have remained healthy and not spiral into his recurring back injuries. There is certainly a chance he would have remained healthy.

Dak would have gained more time and experience with Romo and might himself ended up a better QB.

I am still Salty they gave up on Romo while he was still viable for an upstart that had a good start but faltered ever sense.

I doubt it, maybe that season it would have but Romo was so fragile by the end I dont think he'd have made it through another full season. I also don't believe it would've necessarily made Dak a better qb.

EDIT: sorry you said let's assume he'd remained healthy. We can assume it, but it's a big stretch. At that point I definitely like my odds with Romo.

You never know; he fact that he was never as good until 2023 might argue otherwise.
At any rate, a healthy Romo was definitely a better QB.
I don't think he was as fragile as some here like to claim but how did that year end with Dak?

I’m not a person to sit here and talk about how good Dak is but the season only got to that point because of Dak. Romo was absolutely as fragile as a house of cards at that point of his career. it was time

Romo couldn’t stay healthy. The last three times he hit the turf hard something broke. He couldn’t be depended on anymore. We wouldn’t have gotten any further with him had he stayed healthy. That was already proven during his career. It’s not like he was great in big games. He was 2-6 in the playoffs/season finale elimination games.

A rookie was not going to be successful in the playoffs, Tony was the best option at the time. If Romo did get injured again, Dak was back in…..no biggie since he had valuable experience.

Bold> Just that simple. No rookie quarterback ever appeared in or won a Super Bowl, before or since. There was zero reason to believe that eventuality would change in the 2016 playoffs.

Jerry Jones, the gambler (and Jason Garrett) disagreed. Just like the 2001 season, Jones thought he had the quarterback to compete and immediately win a Super Bowl that year. Guy has no GM feel.

Romo and Dak have basically the same resume. Good regular season QB's, with a couple WC wins that falter in big games.

Romo's body told him to quit and he listened. He could have gotten another big contract if we wanted. He knew his body wasn't holding up though.
