Would the Cowboys consider a NT in rd 1?

Let's say Graham/Harmon/Nolen are off the board, would they consider an elite run stuffing NT in the first rd, like a Grant or Williams? Both players have some rush abilities, but they are more collapse the pocket type of rushers. With their weakness of run defense, I really think they have to consider take either player if the 3T's are off the board. When I see a team like the Lions playing McNeil with Reader, you can play two run pluggers together.

Yes, they would consider Grant. Grant isn't a typical 1tech. He can also run and rush the passer.

If they can upgrade their run defense, they are going to have to consider it.
Keep in mind your NT has to be one of the most selfless teammates on the team. He can't worry about stats ( needed for contract neg ) per se coz a major part of his responsibility is keeping his LBers clean.

so what? Pretty much every NT that has played in this generation is told that from day one IN COLLEGE.

I don't see Dallas taking a NT in the top 15. They do not value NT that much -- do they have new coaches that do?
If 16-32 is where they draft, or trade down to, then maybe a Grant/Williams/DWalker would come into play.

3T and DE are much more valuable to Jerry from what I have seen. Many of them would have to be gone for Jerry to take a NT/1T.

He’d have to have serious pass rush ability. Right now the only NT worth a first round pick in the NFL is Dexter Lawrence… due to his pass rush.

We have tried going in the late rounds and ended up with Duds like Bohannon

we have sort of tried in trades with Hankins

For NT we have not made a serious effort even with Mazi who is more of a 3T

Exactly........Jordan Davis is probably a good example. 1 sack this season and 3.5 in 3 three years but a good run defender. It's interesting to see if he's offered the 5th year option.

Carter on the other hand.......oh my, he's the best DT in the league and just scratching the surface. He's the Eagles version of Parsons.......

Davis is a good NT, is Jalen Carter’s conscience, and I hope we have him for 10+ years. But the only way he earns the 1st round capital we invested in him is if he has a Brandon Graham-like career

Yea I have heard he keeps Carter balanced. He's a good kid.........excellent lockerroom player you can count on doing his job every Sunday regardless of stats/fanfare.

As time goes by, it is more and more out of Jerry’s hands. Grant looks like a good fit for Dallas. I'll be amused if Warren from Penn State is the best player on the board when Dallas picks. I know one thing, we don't want Philly to get Warren.

Get your run clogger in FA so you don’t have to reach in the 1st.

DTs that can’t pass rush shouldn’t go in the top 20.

I’ve heard Grant has pass rush potential but not sure if that’s translated to production. Need to keep digging.

Haloti Ngata from the Ravens was picked 12th and he was a dominate run player.

Yes if Grant is still on the board. Grant has Veta potential. I am drafting a defensive tackle in round one and double dipping before round 6 because the Eagles/Detroit offensive lines are not going anywhere.
