I read this yesterday, but didn't see it posted.

-------------------------------------------

West Virginia will join the Big 12 for the 2012 season after a lawsuit settlement was reached with the Big East, the school and league announced Tuesday.

The Big East Conference board of directors voted to terminate West Virginia's membership, effective June 30. The vote is conditioned upon WVU fulfilling its obligations under an agreement that resolves the lawsuits between both parties.

West Virginia accepted an invitation in October 2011 to join the Big 12, and sued the Big East in its home state to get out of the league without waiting the required 27 months. The Big East filed its own suit in Rhode Island, seeking to hold West Virginia to the waiting period.

The Charleston (W.Va.) Daily Mail, citing an anonymous source, has reported that the Big East will receive $20 million in the settlement, with WVU contributing $11 million, and the Big 12 covering the remaining amount.

WVU already has paid half of the normally required $5 million exit fee to the Big East.

Complete Story

On the Texas boards a lot of people are saying Texas actually provided the majority of the $9 million the Big XII is paying in the hopes that A&M and Mizzu's settlements will ultimately cover the cost in the future. They wanted this to happen bad it sounds.

Would not shock me.

Sounds like WVU will be the little buddy of Texas due to Luck's ties with Texas and Dodds. I would also imagine this is why they did not go with more than just WVU and TCU at this time since that is what Texas wanted.

If true I don't blame them. Having WVU in the Big 12 is a good thing. Especially if you are getting someone else to pay for it. It's like the conference is gets a boost for free. The conference will easily make that money back having WVU actually in the conference playing games over the next what was it 27 months?

Well, it's all ice cream and cake right now but I've watched a lot of WV Football and before it's all said and done, WV is going to pill back on a few folks in the Big 12. I have a feeling we are going to hate playing them before to long.

:laugh2:

Like old times on the political boards in the Big 12 BP.

Oh no doubt.

I have heard enough whining from Sooner and Longhorn fans over the years on this board to know it will turn that way sooner or later.

However I do wonder who will become the main rivalry for WVU and if they (big 12) will try to push one team to be that rivalry.

Well, now that TAMU has left, it's probably Texas and/or OU. We are bitter rivalries between the two of us, as you know but the rest of the Conference seems to like beating the snot out of us when they can as well.

The Big 12 is symmetrical that way.

:D

I personally can't wait for the Tech/WVU game. Someone in the stands IS going to die before that game is over. :laugh2:
