XBL question

Question for those technically skilled.

I recently purchased an Xbox and will attempt to hook up with xbox live via the 2 month free trial that came with my ESPN 2k5.. so the question is in using this will I going to need my pc connected to the net or just the modem to the xbox unit in order to use xbox live? I dont have a router and I'm not so sure I really want to invest in one just for the purpose of gaming..

Can someone shed some light onto this for me..

You dont need a router, just plug the modem into the back of the xbox.
