If memory serves, he went on the IL with "back issues". That's something that's not easy to prove, or disprove.

Methinks there was nothing wrong with his back, he just needed a rest, and the Astros felt they could hang on with their lead and a minimal number of games left to play. Which they did.

Looking over the last 20 years it seems to be a outlier; not an indication of what was claimed.
