Zach Thomas signs, retires with Dolphins

5/20/2010 6:45:00 PM

Linebacker Zach Thomas signed a one day contract with the Miami Dolphins and retired today.

"To have him retire as a Miami Dolphin, that's special. Zach will always be viewed as an iconic figure for the Miami Dolphins," said General Manager Jeff Ireland, who quickly accepted Thomas' request on Wednesday to sign a ceremonial deal. "What Zach has been able to accomplish, who he is, is a great example to every player on this team."

"I had to quit being in denial," said Thomas, who choked up in the early moments of his news conference. "Now it's time to turn the page … There was one thing I'm good at. Now it's time to see if there's anything else I'm good at."

...a good decision for him.

He was one of the league's class acts and he performed beyond his size.

It is now time to check out the other aspects of life.

Wonder why and when the Fins brass changed their stance on not having anything to do with this.

Maybe the bad press from the Dez question made them realize it doesn't pay to be an ****** all the time.

I think he'd be a good coach. We just lost Dat, I wish he'd give it a try.

I'm surprised Danny Snider didn't offer him a long-term deal.

He probably did and Zach did the smart thing and retired. :laugh2:

Any player should take it as a sign to retire when Danny comes a calling.

These are the players the Commanders signed this off season. Willie Parker, Lj, Bobby Wade, ex cowboy Sean Ryan, Mcnabb (trade), Vonnie Holliday, Joey Galloway... They getting real old.. While the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants have gotten younger.. I hope Shanny enjoys his time at Commanders park..

So does this mean Zach is going into coaching or will he be on ESPN starting this summer?

It would be close, but I think I'd just prefer Brooking. Maybe in a year or two?

I have a question, did we do this with Emmitt? If not, Why didn't we? Just wondering.

Congratulations Zach Thomas. One era for you officially ends now. Another era for a statue bearing your likeness begins in Canton five to seven years from now.
