Zeke's role

I find it rather disturbing that over the course of the week Zeke admitted to “discussing his role” with coaches or team officials.

Then the game happens and even though Rico has clearly been the better back and actually had a decent game last week.

So, Zeke gets more carries than Rico in the game today. To the tune of 8 carries for 17 yards.

It’s really disturbing that Zeke bringing up his role actually impacted who got the carries in the game today. Zeke had no business getting more carries than Rico. The coaches have to see that. So why was he out there?

Do the coaches not care? Are they so incompetent they can’t see that Zeke is toast and Rico, who isn’t that good either, is at least clearly better than Zeke at this point?

Or, did the Jones’ get involved and pressure the coaching staff into getting Zeke the ball more?

I too was shocked to see him get as many carries as he did early in the game.

A player will always believe they can help to right the ship at the position they are responsible for, even when he has declined. I can't blame him for trusting himself, but the coaches should be able to recognize he's not even doing what he was brought here to do. He is here to be part of a committee. Dowdle was always seen as the primary back. They seem to have recognized that Zeke is ineffective, so Dowdle is starting to get the lion's share.

I didn't see Dowdle as deserving of a featured back role, but the talent pool at the position dictates it. People keep excusing him because of our offensive line and claiming he is fine. Sorry, but two things can be true at the same time. Our RB situation is abysmal and our OL is struggling with rookies, an aging player, and a guy who never recovered from his injury.

Jerry probably brought this to McCarthy's attention. Why did the resign him? This was Jerry trying to make. statement. But he is nothing more than a foolish old man playing GM.

The whole thing is a joke. There's not a single player on the roster that even belongs in a RB by committee. The are one down guys at best

If zeke wants to be fat slow and overweight (by running back standards) then why not convert him to full back???

The ONLY explanation is that we mailed it in, knowing that we didnt really have a chance ..... and Zeke you're up, to save injury to RB1 (and hopefully retain your spot).

So confused because we're saving him, SO NOW WHEN EVERY player feels this way should they call a meeting??

Firing Solari could help. All I got to say about any of our backs failures. Starts with this man. Not just this game but his entire tenure. His schemes are not right for this team. Unless we were committed to running against Detroit which the score dictated that we couldn't Dowdle would not have made any tangible difference.

You do know the answer to this question, right?

It goes all the way back to Deion's day.

I will say that if ever there was a day for Zeke to get more carries, it was this one, in a blowout loss. Might as well save the wear and tear on the better back.

And people say Jerry doesn't meddle, sure he does. Would love to see some of the Coaching Staff just pack their bags and split with no notice.
If I were a coach, I would just not let Jerry influence my decision and let him fire me. That way you still get paid your contract. If you resign you don't get paid.

Zeke getting more carries than Dowdle shows exactly what's wrong with this team.
Zeke is washed up. Everyone knows this but Jerry.
Dowdle isn’t an NFL starter, so it ultimately doesn’t matter.

Just goes to show you Jerry would rather be friends with Zeke then put the better player on the field. These are the things that make us what we are.
