A CB round 3 has to start

You have to depend on the draft that’s your main source of talent . You can’t buy a team full of FA’s . Asking a 3rd rounder especially Dallas this year in a better draft position to have a 3rd rounder be impactful is a must if they hope to close the gap of a 3rd place team in a 4 team division .

And I read all these mock drafts about WR RB DT & LB check out the CB position , They better bring Lewis back but he’s a nickel your not sticking him play after play on McLaurin or Brown …

Dallas needs a CB to play opposite Bland. DJ Reed of the Jets was my suggestion as a FA but the Jones family won’t crack the vault he’s 12 million per player . Better draft one and no not a 5th like Carson .
I agree with bringing back Lewis. I think, though, we should sign a FA to man Diggs' spot until he returns. My pick would be Gilmore if he doesn't retire. I'd sign him to a one-year deal similar to what he got from Minny. Of course, I don't expect the Joneses to do that.

I'd give Carson more time to develop. Asking a fifth-rounder to start is asking too much. We speak of these players like they are busts, but they never needed to be in that position. Not all of them play like Bland the first year.

I agree that we need corner help, but we also need RB help and DT help and WR help ... we're going to have to find our starters at some of those positions in free agency because if we're relying on third-rounders to start as rookies, we're being foolish. Some do, but many of them turn out like Tolbert or Wright or a hundred different names I could put here. And not to pick on Dallas, but I could do that for pretty much any team.

Re-sign Lewis, first n foremost. Dallas should be looking for veterans to acquire at CB like: Kristian Fulton, Benjamin St-Juste, Michael Jackson, Isiah Oliver, Elijah Molden, Asante Samuel Jr., or bring back AO (cheap), Mukuamu (cheap). Diggs is big money, Bland will be big money, so no need in adding a high draft pick into the mix. Also, I prefer a vet over a mid round rookie because Dallas needs guys who can play out the gate.

DJ Reed of the Jets fits the “ Vet FA “ route . With holes elsewhere if a FA isn’t signed a CB needs to be drafted even if Lewis is signed . The depth right now is Amani O and Troy Pride Jr ex Carolina 4th rounder and Carson . Lewis is a nickel and yes Jerry needs to bring him back as well as other Cowboy FA which makes me think they will not sign a veteran corner other then Nickle Lewis .

Possible pick Tre Amos OLE Miss part of a very good attacking D . Diggs is surgery recovering and Butler the UDFA looked really nice until season ending surgery . Lewis is a FA hopefully they bring back then you have Bland and little else .

Amani O would rate higher than Carson but this position screams for 2025 starter .

If you go DT round one possibly Walter Nolen then grab your RB Sampson , Trey Amos at 3 has to start game one opposite Bland can’t afford a developmental CB round 3.
Eberflus runs a lot of zone. If we resign Lewis, we will have Bland, Lewis, Carson, and Butler. It's not hard to find good zone defenders; both of the kids at Kansas played lots of zone and turned the ball over. They will likely last into the 5th. Scandrick stuck around a long time from the 5th round.

This is the way of thinking that we need to hope Jerry gets away from this offseason. You just cant realistically expect 3rd round picks to hit with a high frequency. Even tougher for 3rd rounders to be plug and play starters to help bridge the gap between you and the teams ahead of you.

Most years you'll only get 2-3 guys drafted in the 3rd round that will make a single pro bowl their entire career. Certainly not saying you can't hit in those rounds, but the idea that you have to hit on a day 1 starter is a losing bet more often than not.

The Cowboys probably had about as good of a situation last year with the 3rd round picks of Beebe and Liufau, and even those guys took some lumps and needed their developmental reps, Liufau especially.

I’ve heard Butler physically and surgically worst off then Diggs . Neither will play before mid season my prediction . Amos can play zone but when I hear the word “ zone “ I see offenses just moving the ball up and down the art gallery carpet .
