Current Cowboys cap space 2025

So, even with Dak's contract, we are under the cap. If we can get Parsons' contract done, Lamb restructured, Diggs restricted, and Steele restructured to add to our $2.47 mil, that should be about $55.97 mil in cap space. We can do a lot with that and not even restructure Dak.

We could have done some things last year to create CAP space too. Jerry waiting almost until the beginning of the season to do some of them.

Yes, we can save $37 million restructuring Dak. But should they? That restructure would at over $7 million to the CAP each year for the next 5 years if they want to cut Dak after the 2026 season. I would want to leave that door open. The other restructures are okay.

The big question is, even if you clear this CAP space what will Jerry do with it? My guess is he doesn't need this much CAP space because he will sign a couple of low cost free agents but no one significant.

We could have made some wiggle room. But this is potentially the most cap I have seen this team have for in probably ever.

$100 million can give you 1-2 elite studs, 2-3 solid starters.

They can 180 this roster with a few signings.

But we will get to listen to Jerry and cap boy talk about not hurting to future and focusing on resigning our first round pick in 2027

Well, if we don't restructure Dak, we can be out of the contract with a June 1 cut next year if that is necessary for the year after for $40+ mil in cap space. So, we can both free up a lot of cap space and position ourselves for a new QB if needed. More importantly, we can begin preparing the team for the next QB. Problem is, like you said, he probably won't do any of the smart things. If we had a GM like Roseman or Veech, we'd have the $50+ mil in cap space and we could really put our team in position to compete.

Rusty this is gooooooooooooooooooooood to know, thank you for pointing this out that we don't even have to touch dak's contract. Soooooo if we don't touch it, what does that tell you???

if we don't bother dak's contract, and take the big hit this season (what will the hit be?), what will the hit THEN be for the next season? ()

Well, if we don't touch it, we can eat then it and still have enough cap space to make moves to improve the team's ability to compete. We if we play this well, we should have more than enough to sign Tee Higgins and position this team to compete.

so we can have about 90+ million if we touch it, but if we DON"T touch it, we can still take the hit and add players to this team??

I restructure CDL easily.

Frees up 20.5mil cap space.

Cut Don Wilson pre- June 1st. Save 5.3mil cap

Re-sign Parsons, save around 12mil.

The above puts the team at ~+30mil going into Free agency.
Almost every deal signed in Free agency, year 1 is min base salary(1.2mil) + prorated signing bonus.

Otherwords, this year, they can go further with new signings taking advantage of low cap hits if they wanted to.

Could even restructure Dak, but I wouldn't do the max possible under a simple restructure.

If they leave Daks contract alone his cap numbers will look like the following:

2025 - 89M
2026 - $67M
2027 - $61M
2028 - $71M

If they dont touch is deal this offseason and make him a June 1st cut next year his cap hits would look like this:

2026 - $27M
2027 - $33M

so we can have about 90+ million if we touch it, but if we DON"T touch it, we can still take the hit and add players to this team??
My guess would be no. The Cowboys like to keep some cap space open so they can carry it forward to the next year. If they plan on saving $20M or so for carryover once you resign a few of your own guys and account for the draft class the bulk of that cap space is probably gone....especially if they end up using a franchise tag this year.

so hmmm what to do

And keep on building and give this new staff ground to excell.

I get some here dont like the HC hire (Im wasn't a big fan myself) but they went out and got him the assistants he wanted, I have this crazy idea, do the restructers needed to go get him the pieces he needs to inact his plan..they bought into the plan to run the scheme..GO GET HIM THE PIECES JERRY..if it doesnt work then you can hang it on him..

From a Prior post :
The Cowboys have 35M in cap space just by flipping Dak's salary to bonus.
Pretty easy to get to 50M cap space without any cuts.

Convert Dak, CeeDee and cut Terence Steele? 60m in cap space.

The Cowboys timing will tell us everything.
I do not expect them to have extensions done day 1. That would require a good front office.
But even the half dead front office can flip the restructure switches built in for Dak and CeeDee.

This is with Dak counting 90M against the cap. In order for Dallas to do anything the off-season, they have to give Dak a huge bonus so they can spread out his cap hit over 5 years.

We can create in total just under 100 mil with a built in Dak trigger as well

I honestly, I could see them leaving Dak's contract in place. No restructuring ........just me, but I get the feeling Jerry has his mind made up that he's moving on from Dak after this contract.
