It's a long shot for a GM when Jerry goes, but....

Brandon Brown, assistant general manager for the Giants.

He was recently passed up looking at taking a job as a GM, but, from what I hear about from Giants fans, they like him.

I get the impression he has no real power, but the few times I guess he's spoken up, he really wasn't keen on how the Giants are doing things, but he of course has to tow the party line.

Couple things about him that I've read up on him that caught my interest...

He worked directly under Howie Roseman for some time, and apparently Roseman was not happy with losing him to the Giants, but happy that he got a promotion to assistant general manager.

Reading up on Brown, like Roseman, he ended up getting a law degree after he got a dual degree in business administration and communications and unlike Roseman, also played college football. Don't know it for a fact, but the kid seems smart.

I know nothing will ever change with Gerry as the owner and GM, but when the baton is ever passed to Stephen, I pray he looks to someone to actually run the team and takes a lesser "hands on approach".

Brandon Brown is a guy I would look to as a possible viable option.

Jerry said Stephen is one of the smartest people he knew. Graduated with an Engineering degree. If we believe him, then Stephen will be smart enough to hire a GM.
Jerry should get out more often.

It could be that Jerry is intimidated by intelligence, so he avoids being around it as much as possible.

That would explain why Stephen is the smartest guy he knows.

Actually, that would explain a great deal.

I think Stephen will hire a GM in title to take some of the heat off himself but his cheapo philosophy will still prevail. You won’t be hired if not on board.

You have to build a champion with the draft only. Good luck.
I dont mind this approach, but you have to have MORE DRAFT PICKs to do this each year. So they really should become captain trade back every year if they want to do it via the draft all the time.

Regardless of who the Jones family hires they must "Empower" them to do the Job. BTW "empower" is a word that Troy Aikman first used and I liked and borrowed it from him. Any GM hire not named Jones must have full power to do any and all duties normally attached to the job.

The same thing with the head coach. The HC must have complete authority in the locker room and on the field. He should make any and all related decisions. Current and recent Cowboy head coaches have not had enough power. The Jones family has and is always meddling with things.

I have a feeling Stephan will step away and just be an owner. Hire a great GM and enjoy his freedom. Or at least i hope for that.

Why even do this to yourself?

Nice outside the box post man.

Mara hitched his wagon all in to the Schoen/Daboll combo this year as I believe both that GM/HC duo is desperately working to save their jobs this year.
Additionally, I don't know how much personal input Brown had with that whole Daniel Jones contract catastrophe but that was a huge mistake. Combine that with Schoen's less than impressive '22/23 draft classes and Schoen should be on a short leash to which Brown may already have the inside track of relieving him if Schoen gets fired with the Giants.
However much Brown has directly been involved in roster construction is anyone's guess at this point imo but at least Schoen's '24 draft class was above average as compared to the previous 2 years.
That goes to show something if Brown had anything to do with it.
Lastly, like you, I would be interested in someone having been trained under the very successful Roseman.

Again, I could totally support a major GM hire like this if Stephen were to alter the Cowboy chain of command like this.
McClay would likely already be Stephen's first choice but Brown is a nice alternative.

That's the reason why his name came of interest to me, added listening to some Giants fans, they like him but they tell me he has no real power.

I do pretty well at my job (nothing to do with football), but the reality is I couldn't do what I do at my job if it weren't for the people "underneath" me and that I trust them to do their job. Perhaps Roseman is a flash in the pan, but behind any successful people in their line of work IMO, there are always people who support them who people have no clue about. Reading up on Brown, it seems he was very beneficial to Roseman in Philly, and that tells me something about his work ethic..

Very sincere thanks on the compliment as well. The reality is I don't hold much hope that Stephen Jones, when he takes over the position as owner (whenever that happens) decides to delegate running the organization to someone who has actually been trained as working as GM and is held accountable for his work.

You're welcome brother. Yep, I agree with ya that most success stories in life have alot of vital behind the scenes people that are just as responsible for the sucess as the one being publicly cited for it.

I like this type of big picture deep discussion.
DallasEast knows how to go beyond the surface on a lot of material that I agree with too.

And yeah, I'm skeptical of Stephen ultimately changing things up as well, but it doesn't hurt to dream I guess.

Cowboys!
lol

Any GM candidate has to have a championship team that he has built....if we ever got another GM, he has to be big time and a SB winner....anything else is a waste of time

Sorry, is taking after his daddy

Can Chris Rosetti, Director of Pro Scouting, be a package deal with Brandon Brown? I don't know. Maybe sit him in the corner of the room. If Rosetti starts asking questions and twitching around like a crack addict in his chair, it *MIGHT* be a good idea to re-think whatever the freaking topic being discussed...

It'll 100% be Stephen and he might be worse
That is certainly a scary thought. Jerry for most of his tenure wasn't afraid to make the splash move to improve the team, but early on he was a terrible GM after Jimmy left with his drafting. Drafting has certainly gotten better, but with Stephen becoming a bigger influence in the decision room risk taking has been almost 0. I think to win in the NFL you can't be afraid to take some chances or be afraid to fail.
