It feels as if Stephen determines what a player is worth, and won’t sign them if he considers it an overpay…even if it solves a major need in the lineup. This info does not take into account what the new cap numbers will be. The league announced this week they expect an increase of somewhere between $26-28 million for 2025. And the Cowboys have a ton of options on how to restructure several contracts as well as release some players for cap savings.
In short, the Cowboys will have zero…nada, no excuses regarding the cap not allowing them to make moves. If JJ or SJ come out this spring with another “we can’t do anything because of the cap”, they are not only lying, they might as well also say, “We are cap incompetent.”
It’s seems to be case by case, and a hole is left before risking an overpay…..that same weakness ends up exploited by better coaches/teams.
They don’t build a team around any philosophy, they collect players.
Then couple that with drafting for need and using the excuse for passing on better players as they ‘weren’t a scheme fit.’
Can’t keep making consistently terrible decisions and expect to win.
