Jerry/Stephen And Schotty's FA list

This info does not take into account what the new cap numbers will be. The league announced this week they expect an increase of somewhere between $26-28 million for 2025. And the Cowboys have a ton of options on how to restructure several contracts as well as release some players for cap savings.

In short, the Cowboys will have zero…nada, no excuses regarding the cap not allowing them to make moves. If JJ or SJ come out this spring with another “we can’t do anything because of the cap”, they are not only lying, they might as well also say, “We are cap incompetent.”
It feels as if Stephen determines what a player is worth, and won’t sign them if he considers it an overpay…even if it solves a major need in the lineup.

It’s seems to be case by case, and a hole is left before risking an overpay…..that same weakness ends up exploited by better coaches/teams.

They don’t build a team around any philosophy, they collect players.

Then couple that with drafting for need and using the excuse for passing on better players as they ‘weren’t a scheme fit.’

Can’t keep making consistently terrible decisions and expect to win.

So Jerry has said they are not going to do alot different in this years FA. BUT Stevie wonder boy said they are re-evaluating and will be making changes. So im hitting somewhere in the middle. This team is decimated on the DL, Needs another playmaker at WR and RB and we have 0 backup QB. So with all that said. Who are some mid to low level FA you would like to see brought on.

DT: (Draft 2 Somewhere)

RB: (Draft 2)
  • resign Dowdel OR Javonte Williams 5m a season

WR: (Draft 1 somewhere)
  • you know its going to be DIGGS opposite Lamb Diggs 10m a season
QB:
  • Resign Cooper 5m a season
Total Spent per year 26M for new starters NOT including Resigning our own guys like Goldston or anyone else.

What would you do?
Dumpster diving in free agency is their strategy until they prove otherwise.
I have zero expectations from this front office.

If the Cowboys were to retain Cooks and add a receiver in the first round of the draft, like Luther Burden III or Emeka Egbuka, you would feel good about the position group entering the season. In this scenario, you would have Lamb + Egbuka/Burden as your top two options and Cooks/Jalen Tolbert as your three and four. That’s a pretty solid group, not to mention wildcards KaVontae Turpin and Jonathan Mingo serving as depth pieces.

Cooks may never be the guy we saw during the 2023 season again, but Dallas does not need him to be. What the Cowboys would need from him is 40 or so receptions totaling 400-450 yards to take some pressure off Jalen Tolbert and whatever receiver they select early in the 2025 draft.

The Cowboys and Brandin Cooks could both benefit from a reunion. Bringing the veteran wideout back to Dallas on a one-year deal would be an excellent start to a critical offseason for America’s Team.

Amari Cooper???

And McCarthy didn't have anything to do with Cooper getting traded (not walk).
Sorry, I meant traded. I heard that he had more to do with it than we initially thought from I think Bobby Belt when he dished a bunch of stuff on McCarthy after he was gone. Either way, I think Cooper would be a good, sensible signing assuming Jerry would do it. The price would definitely be cheap enough.

Believe the proper responses most teams are not paying the same position that kind of money you can't have two that high a priced players at the same position that's most teams in the NFL do not do that why do you think jamar chasing T Higgins haven't been signed guys like Higgins the only way he's gonna get his money is to go to a team that needs a number one then it would make sense you usually fill in with a young wide receiver group behind your number one that's getting high money like they did in Minnesota the Cowboys need to pick in the top three rounds a dynamic wide receiver one that can play outside but with speed you know someone like A.J. Brown with speed I'll take it Dez Bryant type they need something to compliment lamb and it's not a $30 million number 2 it's just not very cat friendly for any team to do it and it's very rare you don't usually see a team have two defensive ends both making 30 plus it just doesn't happen sure you can probably point out one instance but typically it doesn't happen... That's why there's a salary cap and a roster limit it does make it difficult to have that kind of money tied up in the same position..

Before you blame Jones why don't we just look at the rest of the NFL in the team he's on right now I mean why is it that Chase/ Higgins are still not signed. I mean isn't this one of those things where you say it's just Jerry should have got ahead of it you got to pay your players early to get the best deal and they got two of them sitting there with their hands out at the same time.

So either bring back Brandon cooks or someone that's a little bit better as a #2A veteran you know like people have mentioned who knows there's a lot of them out there that you can pay 10 to 15,000,000 and just get them on the opposite side and draft one in the top three rounds and here we go that's the best way to handle it I know fans think you could just gobble up every free agent out there that's just not the reality...
Or, look at who the Commanders, Eagles, and Giants are starting at WR1 and WR2 and make sure you have two wide receivers at least equal to them, or better. Pointing out there is another owner as stupid as Jerry Jones is unnecessary.

I'm not holding my breath, but I would love to see this team go get a guy like Drew Dalman to add to the OL. Centers don't break the bank in free agency and he probably gets around the $10M per year range. It give the Cowboys a fantastic run player in the middle of the OL with a ton of flexibility from there. Smith/Dalman/Beebe may be one of the best interior OL in all of football. It would also give you the flexibility to kick out Smith to Tackle if they wanted to go that way. You would also still have Bass/Hoffman that would either be two of the better depth guys in the league, or possible trade bait to add a draft pick this year.

Amari Cooper???

And McCarthy didn't have anything to do with Cooper getting traded (not walk).
Actually according to insiders, McCarthy was a huge factor in Cooper beign traded. Don't shoot the messenger, they've discussed it on 105.3 with a couple of different insiders. Not saying it's accurate, just relaying what the media has shared.

I love Spillane. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him land in Philly (Baun is overpaid) and Washington (Wagner age).

He will be 30 this year, so he shouldn’t break the bank.
We have better odds of signing Mickey Spillane. This front office wouldn't know the difference honestly. I like the player. Again, like you noted, he's 30. He might have 1 year of great football remaining at a high level.

Why is the most popular, valuable sports franchise in the world running the front office like a penny pinching church social with two nuns in charge? I mean, these two guys are tighter than ***** hatband in the Mojave in summer. It's ludicrous we are sitting here yet again talking about bargain basement shopping already when you step back and take a good examination of the entire team. It's insane.

Your quote above is one of the best and most accurate descriptions of this organization’s approach each off-season I’ve seen.

What would you do?
Lol,
Leki Fotu?
You could probably find a 325 lb dude scrubbing bathroom floors in a McDonald’s who’s better?

10m for a 30 yr old receiver coming off of ACL tear… no thanks.
Seriously, why pay someone for past production with other teams!

Guys I'd be looking at:
safety Talanoa Hufanga
Dre Greenlaw, LB
Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt (wants to be traded)
BJ Hill
defensive tackle Jarran Reed
Lavonte David
Khalil Mack
Javan Hargrave - I think before the cap increased so much he was going to be cut, now not sure
Believe the 49ers have already informed Hargrave that he would be released. That was with the knowledge that the cap would be increasing… not like yesterday wasn’t expected or some secret.
Philly seems resigned to the fact they’ll be loosing Milton Williams. My guess, he goes back there!

lets wait and see where the yacht is on march 12 !
If they dont do anything the first week you might as well forget FA.

I am not going to waste time thinking about FA.
I think shotty would like to do something,so I will just wait and see if anything happens.

What would you do?
Sticker shock season is about to start. I expect Rico to garner something between $6-8 million. We must always remember that the market is what dictates the cost of signing players. It’s never what we think a player is worth.

I always come back to how much we paid Trey Lance last year - a $5.1 million total cap hit - to be our emergency QB most weeks. Yikes. The egirls structured Saquon’s contract last year to be a $3.8 mil cap hit. They will will pay a lot more this next year but unfortunately our FO has not been very good at managing cap hits.
The Chargers just extended DB Elijah Molden 3 years $18.75M. That is what real GM's do.

In the meantime, GM Jethro will tell the world that we are not trading Parson, he is a special player, that is a cornerstone to our success to win a championship. However, we have no intention to extend him anytime soon.

Why are we talking about FA targets?

LET'S try to have some hope guys, let's sign someone other than these players the OP listed let's make some moves. It sucks that Jerry has already said we won't be doing much, how do you feel as a new coach hearing this????
That was bs.
