MoveTheSticks has the Cowboys drafting DT Walter Nolan at No. 12

If they resign Osa, they aren't drafting a 1st rd DT, which in my opinion they should still consider.
There is no excuse for not signing Osa the cap is rising by a good amount again. I listened the Eberflus interview. He is the guy probably talking up Nolan to Jeremiah. Eberflus wants a front four that can stop the run and rush the passer. He wants to have 7 guys on the backend on passing downs. I mean a Micah, Osa, Nolan, and Sam pass rush on passing downs would be interesting to see play out.

They are mocking DT's to the Cowboys because that has been the weakest area of the team (even with Osa) for years and the coaches have come out and said they want to stop the run better. The Cowboys need to sign Osa and draft at least 2 DT's.
I just dont see that happening, unless the two drafted DTs are lower like 3rd and 5th roundds or later.
Definitely dont see is resigning Osa and drafting a DT in the 1st.

without dominant DT play we are never going to win playoff games, like others have suggested we should seriously consider drafting 2 DTs in the 1st 3 RDs if the opportunity presents itself.its a lot easier getting WR help in FA than getting good DTs in FA.
I dont see the Jones’ paying for a top FA receiver. At most we would get a stopgap aging vet on a 1-2 yr deal, or a bargain basement type who would just compete with our other #4-5 type receivers.

Heres one list of the top 10 FA WRs… and the top 2, Higgins and Godwin are possibly returning to their current team.

1) Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
2) Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
3) Keenan Allen, Chicago Bears
4) Amari Cooper, Buffalo Bills
5) Darius Slayton, New York Giants
6) Marquise Brown, Kansas City Chiefs
7) Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans
8) Josh Palmer, Los Angeles Chargers
9) DeAndre Hopkins, Kansas City Chiefs
10) Mike Williams, New York Jets
11) Mack Hollins, Buffalo Bills
12) Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns
13) Diontae Johnson, Baltmore Ravens

After the top 2, I dont see Cooper being brought back. Guys like Keenan, Hopkins and Diggs are 31-32 yrs old and would only be declining stopgaps. Slayton and Palmer are boderline #2s/3s. Johnson is a headcase.
Not easy getting a quality starting FA in the 25-28 yr old range who isnt going to be pricey.

Once again the FO put us in a bind. Cooks, our #2 was an aging stopgap, recent 3rd rounder Tolbert is just a borderline #3, Mingo is a gamble, and the lower rd picks haven’t developed.

Daniel Jeremiah 2025 NFL mock draft 2.0: Steelers, Chargers, Vikings pick RBs in Round 1

https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-2025-nfl-mock-draft-2-0

Has us taking Nolen at 12. Jeanty, Hampton, and Henderson all go in the 1st.

I can see it happening. I will be sick if we pass on Jeanty. Only thing that could change that if he runs a 4.8 40 or has a degenerative disease or something!!
I would take Jeanty at 12 and be happy about it,I figure he would be best player available .I also like the receiver Tet McMillan at 12 , if neither is there ,I would think about a trade down to the 20,s and grab Kenneth Grant DT Michigan. And add another 3rd and or 4th.I think Dallas will have to grab a running back in the 2nd or 3rd if they don't get Jeanty in the first.

I wouldn’t rule out DLaw returning, unlikely but still possible

I agree.........he's all over the chart but for me 12 is too rich, especially with a deep class. If the target is DT, trade down and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd and still get a good one.
Why get a good one when you can get the “best one” especially when it’s at a position that’s essential for the current Defensive Coordinators system to work?

The Cowboys probably want D-Law at a veterans minimum salary like Lawson. He probably feels he can get more than that in free agency. I would move on he has been injured every year but one since 2020.

I know Broaddus and Voch are not big fans but Nolan has the potential to be close to Jalen Carter out of all the defensive tackles in this draft. The mistake is to make him Osa’s replacement. You resign him and draft the kid.
That's where our front office fails. They will do one or the other, but not both. Then, we'll be expecting Nolen to be better than fourth-year Odighizuwa and that's a lot to ask of a rookie.

Agreed. Imagine if they brought Tyron back and let Guyton learn under him until he was injured. Philadelphia let Jalen rotate in his first season. The Cowboys need to stop using the draft like free agency.

It ends up making it look like we have better draft success than other teams because we play out draft picks whether they deserve it or not. Of course, I say that, but we seemed determined not to play Deuce Vaughn last year for some reason. I guess that was more about the Joneses wanting to prove they were right about Elliott.

Yeah, that is why I want Martin and Tank gone.

Obviously they are going to do something, right now we have two DTs under contract unless you count a couple of practice squad players. Out of curiosity I looked up how the Eagle handled it with Carter in 2023. Fletcher Cox started 15 games and rotated him with Carter who started one game. That year Cox had decent but not great stats with 5 sacks, 33 tackles, and 3 TFLs. They did the same thing with Davis his rookie year who started 5 games with Linval Joseph as the starter.

I'm pretty sure DLaw's return is unlikely. Kneeland was drafted as his replacement. Also, in a recent interview, he made it clear that his priority is getting paid. So he will probably sign with the highest bidder........we know that won't be Jerry

We need to add three starting Quality Defensive Tackles and at least one of them has to be a real NT
