Some pre-combine, pre-fa thoughts!

-I do not envision another high offensive lineman being drafted. These new assistant offensive coaches scream development of our young lineman. They have several in their pipeline that they need to find out about. Adams had a top 10 rushing team where little can even name 2 starters along their OL. It is all about scheme and finding 5 cohesive lineman working as one.

-We have to understand with a better rushing scheme, you do not need another blue chip RB to be successful. I could envision adding multiple backs in this deep class along with signing a veteran for insurance.

-I am expecting a very high WR taken this year, 1st or 2nd rd selection. With all the money allocated now to Lamb's contract, I see them trying to control the costs at the position. Many fail to realize this is one of the most expensive positional groups in this league. Look at the Eagles, Lions, 49ers, Vikings they all have 2 #1 type receivers, with elite receiving TE's. Cowboys have to bridge the talent gap.

-Been saying this since the Lions blowout loss in week 5, they have to prioritize fixing their run defense this offseason. Been such a liability, where they just cannot compete against the top teams. I might be in the minority here, but I think resigning Osa to a huge extension will be a big mistake. Rather spend that money on multiple pieces to sure up their run defense. Research that I have done this season starts and ends with bigger personnel having more success against stopping the run. I would add two veteran DT's, add another one high in the draft to go along with an elite Fa MLB and a day 2 will linebacker. We cannot go into every offseason needing to fix the both the DT/LB rooms!!

-The corner position has so many questions. Can they resign Lewis who is coming off of a career season? Will Diggs even be available for next season, is he a release candidate? Should they resign Bland after him missing the majority of last season? Butler looked good, but tears his acl late, Carson also had injuries, but struggled when on the field. This might be the perfect year to draft a future starter, but might also make sense to sign a veteran insurance policy.
I’m with you on just about everything.

I just struggle with letting Osa walk…I understand your point but a legit pass rusher to help Micah is also really important. If Osa walks we go backwards in that department. Much harder to find a good pass rushing DT than run clogger.

I rather fix their run defense now and draft and develop Osa's replacement at a cheaper cost.

They are gonna cap space, I actually see them moving to trade for a vet similar to the Cooks deal but hopefully with better results. Deebo maybe. Is Diggs a FA? I can see them being in the market for him

Even if what I say is true, they still need to be in the market long term for the position. You arent wrong in that its a key position for NFL success. Keep in mind the Eagles spent 3 consecutive 1sts on WR's. And a 2nd the year before that

Im ok letting him go if they commit to a guy at 12 (and Im not saying thats a good idea), and signing a guy like Kinlaw as well

Honestly I think if Osa walks, pick 12 has to be a 3T. There isnt an upgrade on the market and we are very thin. Harmon or Nolen could be as good as Osa as rookies. Thats still a maybe though

Yea again in theory that’s fine…but DTs usually take a few years to hit their stride unless you’re getting a top 5 caliber player like Carter.

I just think we’re creating bigger holes if we let him walk. I’d argue there is borderline zero chance a rookie comes in, even at 12, and gives you what Osa gives you.

Very important position in a passing league and very expensive on the fa market. They missed on Tolbert, whom they had a 2nd rd grade on, time to find his replacement

Fine in theory…but a heck of a lot easier said than done.
I see a pass rush that can still be productive even without OSA, but run defense that just cannot hold up as constructed. 2 high level run defenders at the same cost of resigning osa

Even if Tolbert is mid, he is a FA after next season. He is probably an adequate #3 if you have a strong #1 and #2. We had that with Cooper/Lamb and we they didn't value Wilson enough to extend him. They are probably comparable players too

I do think Mazi could be a very good run defender in 2025. He improved alot there as there season when on. I dont see him being a 3 down guy though. You are going to need a guy that hold up on down and distance where it could be pass or run

Want to add two veterans and 2 picks at the position to go along with Mazi

I just think in that scenario you’re improving one weakness and then allowing allowing another weakness to get weaker.

We should be talking about trying to fix both but we know the Jones won’t spend that kind of money:

I doubt you get that. You will probably get Odighizuwa/Replacement, top 70 pick, and Mazi as your main rotation guys. And Rodgers and/or someone else of of his ilk as a niche/depth/development guy

Can't you say the same thing at WR? They have plenty unproven youngsters on the roster, and they signed a WR Coach from College who developed Cooper Kupp (I think).

Darius Slayton is the UFA WR that could fit cap-wise, speed-wise and help add some juice to this WR room.

Despite having James Conner in place as the starter, the Cardinals took Trey Benson last year in the third round (pick 66). Now, I will give them credit for picking up Conner on the cheap when he became a free agent.

It is possible with the success of those teams that the Joneses will seek to emulate them by taking a receiver in the first round. I still think they will go after Stefon Diggs, but I could see the appeal of someone like Luther Burden instead. Frankly, if we did that, then went DT in the second and RB in the third I could live with that depending on whether we got a decent FA RB. We probably will just bring back Dowdle, though.

As I have previously said, we don’t need a blue chip rb to be successful in these new rushing scheme. Such a deep position this yr, but we cannot say that about wr. If we want an impactful one, probably going to have to plug the trigger in td 1

They both are solid, physical type backs, but neither is considered elite. I want either Hampton or Johnson the most, but there are some others later on that can fit this type of back as well

OL is different than wide receiver, but I understand your point. Probably the best way is to sign a fa on a short term deal and continue their development, but it has to be a far better option than Slayton.
