Steve Shimko is the new QB coach

He worked with Schotty in Seattle for a couple of years. More familiarity.

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have hired Boston College offensive coordinator Steve Shimko as an offensive assistant, the team can confirm, after Will Harriger was hired away from the Cowboys' coaching staff this offseason to be the quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers.

Shimko reunites with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer in Dallas after the two spent two seasons together in Seattle in 2018 and 2019. Shimko's prior experience includes working as a graduate assistant at Rutgers, Western Michigan and Georgia before landing on-field at Garden City Community College as the JUCO powerhouse's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2016. He would hold that position for two years before moving onto the Seahawks for two seasons. Boston College then came calling as he served as tight ends coach in 2020 and 2021, quarterbacks coach in 2022 and offensive coordinator for the Eagles this past season.

So, Brian... you think this is a guy qualified to play mentor to a veteran NFL QB?

The WR and QB coach decisions are almost like you pulled a resume' out of a pile and said, "Yeah, let's to get this guy. What's his name again?"

Guaranteed he's smarter than Dak. Hopefully he was brought in to develop our next starting QB.

QB coach during Wilson’s best years in Seattle
Assistant QB coach.

One year.

Now, given a minute to digest this... I'm gonna figure that it's just a matter of giving a bigger title than probably will be the real life role... giving these guys some props for their resume's next time a chance to advance opens up.

Dorsey is more like the real QB coach, and Shimko will be his assistant... but this arrangement just makes them both seem more important.

I really think that's probably more accurate than anyone is going to admit. Just makes so much more sense.

And, no, @CanadianCowboysFan that's not fair to me. If there's one thing I try hard to do, it's to be consistently candid and candidly consistent. That standard has been checked off once again here. :)

So, I'm intrigued though that Josina at first was told to expect Dorsey to be named an "analyst" like Schotty was, and like McAdoo was before him.

Wonder if that's to be taken as a hint that they're still thinking that should be a thing on this new HC's staff. Who knows. I mean, as it was always explained, I thought it actually was one of the more rational and promising ideas to come out of Dallas since the day Tom Landry decided to incorporate the shotgun. :D

Have we given Dorsey a title yet? I figured he was going to be the de facto QB coach since he was a QB coach from 2013-2021 before becoming the Bills' OC.

Passing Game Coord
Kind of thought that would be it, so that makes Adams running game coordinator while working with the offensive line and Riley and Dorsey passing game coordinator while working with the QB and Shimko. Meanwhile, No-Schott will install a run-heavy version of the West Coast with Adams and Dorsey responsible for installing it and No-Schott calling the plays.

We'll see how that goes, but it won't matter if the Joneses stick to their FA philosophy. If they get jealous of the Eagles and decide to emulate their success, we might stand a chance, but they're likely to keep just believing their fallacy that you can't sustain success that way.
