Very Early look at next year's needs!

I think Schotty will focus on 2nd level players and playmakers.
1.WR
2. MLB
3. CB
4. RB
5. 1T
6. DE
7. TE

How much this will be a need may depend on how we develop Turpin's role and the development of a young player like Flournoy. If we sign a vet receiver to a one-year deal to be No. 2, then this will be a top need next year.

Kind of the same with this position. How big of a need it is will depend on Schoonmaker and Spann-Ford's development. Frankly, I think we'll re-sign Ferguson and not do anything big here because we'll have the two backups returning.

I'm hopeful that Eberflus gives Thomas and Bell real shots at Wilson and Hooker's jobs. Bell's under contract for three years and Thomas will be a RFA. We'll need depth no matter what, but we need to find out if we'll need bona fide starters.

What we need will depend on Overshown's return from injury and Liufau's development. I could see Sanborn returning for cheap again unless he plays himself into a bigger contract.

I think it will be interesting to see how this sorts itself out. If Revel proves that he has the starting ability we think he has, then I could see us paying Bland and getting out of the Diggs' contract. However, if Revel is slow to take hold and Diggs bounces back strong, would we sign Bland to a big contract? I think most likely that Diggs is gone, but we might be hesitant if all those who try to step up into the role look like the corners who tried to step in for Bland last year. That was mostly ugly.

All of us wanted a DT early because of our concerns about Mazi. Well, this should be his last chance to alleviate those concerns. If he can't, he's a one-contract player, we don't pick up his fifth-year option and we need to look for a starting NT (unless Toia can be that). With Thomas on a one-year deal, we may also be looking for someone to rotate with Odighizuwa. It will probably just be another cheap FA, though, and then some late-round stab like we made this year.
I wonder if we use Donovan Wilson could be a cut or trade candidate this yr as he is a poor fit in Eberflus scheme as he is poor on coverage.

I think the team likes Wilson more than a lot of the fans do. He's a tone-setter as a hitter and I don't think his coverage is that bad as long as he's not being asked to be a centerfield safety. Cutting him frankly creates another hole in the lineup. Now, I would like to see Bell be given an equal chance at winning the starting job, but either way, I think safety is one of the few positions where we have quality depth with Hooker, Wilson, Bell and Thomas. We might not have great at the position, but it's a least deeper with solid than other spots.

Eberfuls scheme plays a ton of split high safeties. He likes to play basically two free safeties, Wilson is more of your traditional box safety. His slot corner will are expected to be strong against the run. Just think if Wilson is playing back, not the best fit.

Just know that we are going another year where brass can blame something on why Dak underperformed.

Whether it be no RB, WR2, aging oline, injuries, Weren’t aggressive enough in FA.

If next years qb stack is what they say it is, this would be the time time to look into the future.

Yes, a ton will happen in between now and next offseason, but let's take a very early look at our 2026 needs:

1) WR-let's keep in mind both Tolbert/Campbell will be fa's after this season.
2) TE-Ferguson is a fa after this season.
3) Safety-I believe Wilson's contract is up after this season and Hooker is the following yr
4) LB-even if Overshown comes back healthy, depth remains thin as Murray/Sanborn will be fa's
6) CB-A decision needs to be made on Bland, probably cannot keep him and Diggs on big contracts. If one departs, still have one spot to fill.
6) DT-it will depend upon how Mazi performs in year 3 and our draftee from UCLA.
1) WR:
- Mingo will either be much better or much worse than Tolbert.

2) TE:
- Schoonmaker looked decent as a receiver in limited opportunities last season.
- Brevyn Spann-Ford is a monster as a blocking TE.

3) Safety:
- Juanyeh Thomas and/or Markquese Bell might already be better than Wilson.

4) LB:
- I think Marist Liufau will be one of the starters.

5) CB:
- Sign Bland. Cut Diggs. Revel will be a stud once fully healthy. I think Carson can be decent.

6) DT:
- They're not good at drafting DTs but it's hard to see them signing a significant free agent DT.

-I do believe they will bring in a #2 WR, question is will it be another low valued player? My guess they get a short-term bridge and look to draft a high WR next yr.

-Schoon kind of broke out last season when Ferguson was down. We have to understand TE's have a steep learning curve, remember Shultz was fighting for a roster spot his 1st couple of seasons. Ferguson needs to have a bounce back season and Schoon needs to continue to show improvement.

-Wilson to me remains a June 1st candidate, he is a poor fit as a deep safety and it is my understanding the nickel in Eberflus scheme plays more like that box safety against the run.

-Agree about Marist, but we just don't know how Overshown will be after 2 major knee surgeries with the last one being most severe. I really want the UCLA LB who reminded me of Sean Lee.

-I think Diggs/Bland with be fighting for 1 spot for 2026. Someone also needs to emerge as the nickel corner to replace Lewis. Still have hope for Carson, Butler in the pipeline.

-This class was loaded at the DT position, if they were going to take a high one, this was the year. This tells me that they will never make it a priority.
