When will you judge this years team?

At least 5 or 6 games. And then will be an ongoing judgement for a few more games.

But it can begin in small steps before that.
Depends what / if they do anything in FA, including their own players. Then after the draft, and see the plethora of opinions from the media as well, fans on here.
Then during TC, that really does not tell us a whole lot anymore.

1st snap of the first preseason game. If not a touchdown then the offense sucks and Adams needs to be fired

Honestly, at this point it just comes down to the playoffs. If they make it, is it the same unprepared sloppy team? Or is it a team that doesn't wait till the 2nd to actually play?

So we have the draft and FA ahead of us. We have a completely new coaching staff. At what point will you judge this year's team? Will it be if they start out 1-5 or 5-1? Will it be Thanksgiving? Will it be end of the season?
Judging in which way, by what criteria. 2025 should be another reset, that eases in the coaching team, for them to evaluate the roster (against what they want to do), and then a concerted effort a year from now.
The mess that Jerry caused in 2024, contract wise and an inability to: clear/reset the CAP and gain some draft capital by trading vets with one year left: Osa, J-Lew, Zack and DLaw, has meant this year will be painful.

If I am being honest I judge them every day. My attitude is they need to prove something. It has come to the point where I won’t take them seriously unless they win a divisional playoff game. They could be 14-0 and I would still expect a playoff disappointment. That is just where I am at with this franchise.

If we should have learned anything from last year it is that the off-season will predict the regular season. When Jerry sat on his hands last year coming off an embarrassing defeat to the Packers that should have been enough to conclude 2024 was going to be a bad year. We went into the offseason with 2 glaring weaknesses, RB and DL. By the time free agency ended we knew Jerry was not going to do anything to fix either problem. Free agency was loaded with RBs and DTs. Jerry did not make a move for any of them. He didn't even create CAP space to sign someone if he had shown interest. In the meantime he let almost all of his own free agents leave for other teams. How could you watch the depletion of talent from Dallas without concluding things would get worse?

Also, we should be cautious about expectations from the draft. How did it work out for Dallas last year? We got another steal in the draft at CB with Carson - until we saw him play - Just like Eric Scott the year before. Rookies do not make that much of an impact in their first year - most of the time. The Cowboys drafting at 12 have a chance to get an impact player but I don't see a guy that will turn us into a SB contender.

So to me, we can judge after free agency ends.

We have a completely new coaching staff.
This reason alone gives this a freebie the 1st year IMO......... even listening to their comments you can they have a serious learning curve on the strengths and weaknesses of the players. We can talk all we want about OTAs, training camp and preseason but they won't truly understand how players respond until the regular season against live competition.

The day a QB not currently on the roster is under center. Nothing else matters until that change is made.

After the draft. Once we see the draft class and FA class we will know how serious this team is about winning, or if its another year of being content hanging around the rim.
POST OF THE MORNING, some of these other posters are giving this team too much credit, we need to see what they ADD to this team before we get to november and all these good or bad records

Two teams last year, 15-2, 14-3 had that playoff disappointment with some bad losses in their 1 and done games. As we did against GB the year before, though seemed our loss was way worse.

I think many fans will understand what you are saying. And for good reason.

As I posted, it will be judged in steps. Some as you every day or week, others as the events unfold. FA, 2nd wave of FA (Dallas style), Draft.
