When will you judge this years team?

So we have the draft and FA ahead of us. We have a completely new coaching staff. At what point will you judge this year's team? Will it be if they start out 1-5 or 5-1? Will it be Thanksgiving? Will it be end of the season?
Yeah, that's pretty easy how about we just use all 17 games ?

sometimes teams start hot and go cold sometimes they start cold and go hot but it would be the accumulation of all 17 games..
that would give you a better feel how this is gonna workout,
I mean anyone who wants to prejudge now or five games in that's on you the expectation should be low and everything is TBD.. This place will judge pre-season they will they'll judge vanilla offensive defense, every little thing that happens it's reported from training camp, you remember the interception fiasco from the 2023 training camp and then it was reported every single interception they were counting it on ESPN of all places acting like practice interceptions somehow matter and then all of a sudden Prescott has one of his best years ever second team all pro second team MVP hardly any interceptions pretty much should have been the MVP we see that now because poor Lamar Jackson lost his MVP this year because they gave it to him 2023 and they shouldn't have.. Then the crazy thing is everybody thought it was ridiculous when they were counting jalen hurts interceptions they were saying they don't count even during the regular season when you have guys like Jordan love having a lot of interceptions all of a sudden interceptions didn't count it didn't matter they only mattered here with the Dallas Cowboys because we're always under a microscope..

This is not a Sprint, its a marathon. it's a 17 game season with a new staff and a bunch of new players we're probably going to have it's going to be a new look and a new feel and I'd say that it's better to have 0 expectations and take it game by game and see how it goes..

What if we lose 18 players due to injury like we did in 2020 and last year?

we're pretty much judging a coaching staff that doesn't have enough players too be be successful, I mean it's not going to be very successful if that happens so we got to pretty much keep this on a week to week level and keep some perspective here...

That's how I do it every year is a one off, and I take it week to week and then when it's 17 games in then we can have a real full picture of what went on.

Which by the way you do realize even as crazy as things were last year even with like five games left I believe if we could have won that game that kind of went crazy was it Cincinnati I mean we may have made the playoffs last year with a little luck here or there as bad as everything was we were still in the hunt with five games left and winning games with backups practice squad players that actually beat Washington and had Washington almost beat again you know Washington team that played in the NFC championship game had struggles to beat us with a practice squad team that why you gotta keep perspective all the way up until the end of the year...

I'm judging the FO in March (FA) and April (draft). I'll judge whether they, FO, gave the coaches and current players any help to be successful next season.

I'll judge the coaches and players probably midway or around Thanksgiving.

After 8-9 games. Midpoint of the season. People will wig out if they struggle early but that should be expected. After we get into November we should see what kind of team we have and be able to judge them better.
I'll give a first pass judgement after training camp, but yeah, no way to really know until we play meaningful games.

If you are going that far, you might as well say - after we get a new owner. Because nothing else matters until that change is made.
It's when has that become an automatic blueprint for success,

we've seen teams like the Jaguars get new ownership, I think the Cleveland Browns not only moved but got new ownership maybe twice, how many first round picks, GM,s new head coaches and new quarterbacks have some of these teams at it's still not even quite even close to the level of the Cowboys? The Cleveland Browns haven't even won a division since 1989 and they tried all this stuff why does this seem to be such a focus around here you think Jerry's holding this team back what if he doesn't buy the team in the 90s what if this team would have been bought by somebody else had no success and moved and we don't even have a franchise right now or we have a different one who knows maybe the chiefs move back but even they took 56 years to get back to and win a Super Bowl I mean these cycles are not that abnormal and I get it I wish we could just get back to an NFC championship the game would be a nice step to get the monkey off our back but lots of teams have had monkeys worse than this..

How about a good one, how about recency bias how's that new ownership working out for The Mavericks who also didn't want to pay the best NBA players in the league you know generational it makes a bad trade didn't even get enough compensation for Luka and ADs Hurt, 1st rounder in 2029 , then turns around and gets rid of another healthy productive player in Grimes player in another bad trade, you traded for a player that was going to be hurt for the first month, I mean this is what the new ownership did came in gave the GM cart-Blanche, and the GM just made some drastic mistakes that make Jerry Jones look normal....Be careful what you wish for..

About 3 weeks after free agency begins.

Let’s be real. They can compete with a solid draft and free agency. But they are not filling the voids on this team by the draft only
I agree if we go thru FA with no additions aren't you gonna be starting some rookies again. How did all that work out for us. iF we sit idle in FA gonna be another long season

I'm tracking the Bravo Eugina. Currently docked in west palm Beach Florida. If it embarks on a trip the weeks leading up to free agency then we will know how serious the circus as gotten. A team with a **** ton of holes and rookies coming off less than stellar years needs an influx of talent in a bad way and not just 3rd tier free agents desperate for another pay day.

If these clowns are off to st barts for a 3 hour tour then we know it's status quo for the foreseeable future.

Depends on strength of schedule.....either getting a run of cream puffs or a run of the best teams may still have us waiting.......of course if they lose to the cream puffs or beat the best teams our conclusions will come quicker

This thread is about judging this years team and I was responding to a post concerning the QB position.

Nothing was ever said about anything becoming an automatic blueprint for success.
Well I wasn't sure what you're responding to because I have the guy on ignore..

so I responded just about general ownership changes doesn't always change the futures in a positive way for teams..

I know people think that and I know it's not a full change but it's very similar here the Raiders after al Davis passed away nothing changed they're not even even close to as successful as the Dallas Cowboys I mean they pretty much are look the same to me they haven't got it figured out quite yet and it's been a long time since al Davis passed.. So the family still owns it but they but I believe have a regular GMI don't really pay attention to them but since they are familiar or used as comps to Jerry in the way the Jones family owns this franchise I thought I'd bring them up but I've seen it around the league it doesn't seem to always be a positive it can sometimes be a negative..

I think also everyone needs to keep in mind that not only is this a new coaching staff, it could all be a lot of players being replaced ,but remember there's going to be some players on IR and the PUP list that will get back later, could be two games into the season 4 games, and we don't even have the schedule yet..

we don't know what the first six games of the year look like and if we're going to be shorthanded and some of our best players still coming back it might look better in game 9 or 10 and could get on a roll if everyone starts playing together gets the system to get our players back there's too many X factors coming into this season to even worry about expectations at all...

I read somewhere and I'm not sure it's true but Jerry is saying he'd rather play the eagles game one as a test, I don't think he took these factors into account because we may not have our full team until after week 4..

so no I do not want to see our best opponents until after week 4 we have a better chance of having a lot of players back and getting this system down so wanting your best matchup for gam1, no I don't think so..

Those of you who will be able to attend training camp will be able to see the effect to the new coaching staff is having or not having on this team.
Are they practicing play installation over and over against different scenarios? Different fronts, different blitzes, or are they just running against a standard defense and hoping everything will be wonderful when the lights come on.
Are they getting chewed out for mental mistakes? Are they just moving on to the next play saying, oh, come on, guys.

I hate San Francisco and everything about them, but I do remember one of the announcers saying their players were complaining about Shanahans practice, saying he will make them run a play 12, 13, 14 , times until they get it exactly right, otherwise they don't get to move foward
So pay a lot of attention during practices and training camp, it should give you an early clue as to how things may unfold.

Tell me who the QB is and I will tell you what I think of this team even before the season starts.

I agree we will already have a pretty good idea in TC and once Jerry has done next to nothing once again in FA. Just like last year, we knew this team was doomed from the start. We knew their weaknesses and limitations.

Que sera, sera.

What this team does in free agency will be the first clue to how serious they are ,this team needs talent at several positions .That will show me Dallas brass has changed their ways in building a competitive football team we will see.

Soon as free agency ends

If they do what they’ve been doing I’ll have no reason to judge because you can’t judge a team you don’t watch
technically free agency doesn't end until game 17 I believe you can bring in street free agents that are available you can even bring in players up to the trade deadline what in October so building the roster making changes and improvements things that didn't work last long into the season.... I get most of y'all want them to do a lot in the first two weeks of free agency or it's a failure but that doesn't always how it has to work I saw a chart on Twitter somewhere so I may be able to find it and free agency has a lot of pitfalls there are times when it can work but most of the time a lot of players are paid way above their level and they never live up to them but yes they need to do more but i remember when we started what was it but I remember when we started what was it 3-5 in 2018 didn't look like it was going anywhere and all of a sudden we make a trade for amari Cooper rebound go five and three go into the second round of the playoffs.. So, judging a team after your view of what free agency is might be a little premature...

the success or failure will fall more on injuries like last year or 2020, hard to overcome and that's factoring in when say Diggs, butler, and Overshown come back, at what point do they get going and help this team....could be more of a wait and see a bit later than normal for things to get moving.
