Philip Rivers released

Is he really in the decline though?

It's not really fair to judge Rivers unless he has a real OL, real RB, real WR, real defense and a real coach now is it?

He’s clearly in decline I’ve seen him play a number of times. He’s 38 years old what do you expect? The Chargers wouldn’t have released him if he wasn’t in decline. They wouldn’t have released him if the problem was all due to the coaching OL, RB and WRs. You would rather have a 38 year-old Philip Rivers than Dak?

If Rivers does not find a team in need of a starting QB I would expect him to retire, really do not see him as a guy who is willing to ride the bench.

You are clinging to an old argument. Dak was 5th in the NFL in yards per attempt in 2019.

Didn't know that was an argument. Wins are more important than personal stats in the greater view but yards don't win games. At least nobody who matters sits down at the end of the game and says, "We passed for more yards so we win!"

So NO 10-12 loss (Dak, 0 TDs), Jets 22-24 loss (Dak, 0 TDs), NE 9-13 loss (Dak 0 TDs), and Philly 9-17 loss (Dak 0 TDs). To his credit he had 0 TDs in the 37-18 win over the Giants. If you don't come up big in the first three cases where you only need one score to win, yards don't matter.

Nobody ever won a game based on most passing yards.

I also don't see him as the type to be a backup. If anything he blames the Chargers for him being unsuccessful.

Rivers is aging and never got the Chargers to the Super Bowl. He has a 5-6 playoff record. No thanks!

actually I thought Rivers was due to be an UFA already.

Is he too proud to be a vet backup (ala Drew Bledsoe) as I can see a few teams may want him in that kind of capacity.
but the teams that need a young talented rookie QB to start off their rebuilding cycle will be aiming and investing more for the NFL draft more likely.
\which I believe we'll likely see as many as 3 or 4 QBs in the first round, imo.

Bucs could replace a guy who threw 30 INTs with one who threw 20.

That's progress.

through his bulk of his career, he never had enough of a support group to exceed towards making it to the SB. Too many people act like it's boxing and it's a solo sport.
His defenses sucked,.. his HC's suxed. ..his OL suxed . even with Melvin Gordon, they always counted too much on Rivers and not enough in other areas,
.and his game really went downward the last two years ..... and you can only get so far off just chugging it to Gates, Allen, etc for so long.

The bulk of his career is what has him in the running for the Hall of Fame. He had some very good teams or the Chargers wouldn’t have made the playoffs as many times as they did and they also got to at least one championship game. Fans are making excuses fir Rivers like they did with Romo.

He's kind of a "Rich Man's" Tony Romo or a "Poor Man's" Dan Marino. More HOF credentials than Tony, but not nearly as good as Marino.

Sort of a "Dan Fouts #2".

Then why are you calling Dak "dink and dunk" if that doesn't matter?

Johnny Appleseed has like 9 kids already, there's no telling what will happen once he retires.

At some point everyone on Earth will have genetic material tracing back to Philip Rivers.

With Brady set to explore free agency Rivers could end up in New England. I still don’t see Brady leaving the Pats but who knows. Rivers would be an option if it happens. New England has no experienced QB behind Brady.

I think Rivers would be great, but I worry about his arm holding out.
He's picked up some bad habits, too. He tries to do too much and throws picks.
He is a baller, though, and would do well with a good team if his arm holds out.

5,4,3,2,1...Sign him to be Brady's backup...trade Dez for 30 1st rounds picks..
