Such a waste of a draft class. We draft like a team that has room for luxury picks.
Even more irony!
Wonder if it'll click...lol
As far as 2019 – nope it wasn’t’ a great showing for Cowboys rookies at all, in fact I have my questions to what Trysten Hill will become. Could he be an eventual gem find like Grady Jarrett of ATL ?
or will he just be typical run of the mill JAG, a mere journeyman rotation guy that’s outta the league in a few years ?
- I admit that, based on Hill’s game tape, I was far more confident about Hill’s movement skills and get off, than I was when I saw Taco’s college tape ( uugh ! horrible slow get-off) .
.and just like Tony Pollard, I left it in the hands of Wil McClay.
Injuries hopefully aside, here’s where we find about Hill in his 2nd year, under a better scheme and DL coach, in a strength program and with some of the rookie-ness out of him.
- At draft time, much was talking about Pollard as a “ space” RB, makes plays in space,.. gimmick play guy. Lance Dunbar type. Kickoff ace. But never was brought up him as a capable in-between the tackles runner. Pollard quickly dispelled that notion quickly in the preseason with brilliant vision and surprising lower body strength.
What you saw in Pollard, is what the team was hoping Darius Jackson would end up as in regards to terrific size/speed backup RB to spell zeke.
But Pollard proved a much more instinctive, (totally day vs night difference) impressive and fluid runner than Jackson.
Not only can this guy successfully spell zeke some breather relief, but we have yet to tap his full talent and potential as a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. ( thus enter McCarthy/Peete duo)
Only blemish is his subpar work as a kick returner which hopefully is day and night with new SP coach Fassel.
- CB Mike Jackson was once a well regarded CB prospect before his down final year, injuries derailed him in camp and he compounded that with suspect play in preseason. And they didn’t think much of him to protect him to active roster. I hate that in a deep CB draft class, we came up with nuhthin….
- OG/C McGovern’s IR injury was just unfortunate, and could’ve happened to any prospect. But if he is any kind of regarded prospect, we should here some good things by camp’s end next summer.
- Huge difference between Pollard vs Mike Weber by camp’s end. I ended up just seeing weber as JAG at the very end.
- S Donovan Wilson great preseason had me excited as an INT playmaker. But then the injury and he simply disappeared afterwards, maybe special teams but never as a top reserve. Coaches apparently did not trust his inexperience. 2nd year have to be the wonder. Should be more bulkier than his rookie year too.
- I liked DE Jalen Jelks movement skills, but apparently still very raw as a draftee to make the active roster – yet another mysterious “ IR’ victim.
- they liked Brandon Knight all camp, he made the 53 roster, he even played some OT in a pinch, and and he even started a game. Seems like a good undrafted find.
- Joe Jackson may have to be used more inside than on the edge, he doesn’t play fast on tape, but it must be something they like about his power/knack for being disruptive in backfield.
- I thought undrafted speedy WR Jon Veigh Johnson would make his way onto the roster – but he had bad case of the dropsies and disappeared in preseason – en route to “ IR “
“If you ain’t first, you’re last.”We ain't last, throw a parade!
“If you ain’t first, you’re last.”
I was hoping you would get it.Oh, hell, Ricky, I was high when I said that. I mean, that doesn't make any sense at all. 'You're first or you're last' You-- You can be second, you can be third, fourth. Hell, you can even be fifth
lol
Nothing to brag about. It was one of our less prodigious player drafts.
If we salvage 3 or so starters out of that group, it likely wasn't in vain.
as for as it's rookie year. But it's gonna be measured by what occurs in it's duration.
Your draft is more than just one year.
- There was no 1st round pick due to Cooper trade,
- and what if McGovern seals a starting role and comes out solid,
- what if Hill starts to come on, at least as a rotational guy in 2nd year ?
- I truly expect Pollard to ball In his role under McCarthy/Kellen. vs somewhat underutilized 2019 role.
- Wilson could emerge under a new DC, although I still expect team to draft a safety fairly high
We had a draft class last year?We ranked 30th.

Which is impossible because you guys have been pretty adamant that we are the best drafting team in the league.
RANK

DALLAS COWBOYS: C-
Round 2: (No. 58 overall) Trysten Hill, DT, 7 games/0 starts.
Round 3: (90) Connor McGovern, OG, 0 games/0 starts.
Round 4: (128) Tony Pollard, RB, 15 games/0 starts.
Round 5: (158) Mike Jackson, CB, 0 games/0 starts (1 game/0 starts with Lions); (165) Joe Jackson, DE, 5 games/0 starts.
Round 6: (213) Donovan Wilson, S, 11 games/0 starts.
Round 7: (218) Mike Weber, RB, 0 games/0 starts (spent most of '19 on Cowboys' practice squad before heading to Chiefs' practice squad); (241) Jalen Jelks, DE, 0 games/0 starts.
Notable rookie FA signing: Brandon Knight, OT, 7 games/1 start.
Shook: The Cowboys' greatest contribution from this class came from Pollard, who served as an effective spell back to Ezekiel Elliott, rushing 86 times for 455 yards and two scores. The rest of the group wasn't able to do all that much. Wilson's footprint was limited to special teams. Hill played 121 defensive snaps but recorded just five tackles. As shown above, no draft picks made a single start. Jelks and McGovern headed to injured reserve in September, while Weber ended up with the Kansas City Chiefs on their practice squad. Mike Jackson ended up with the Detroit Lions.
I'm shook right now.
