I don't want him, he is a quitter. He did not get his way threw a fit and quit because he could not smoke his weed. Give me a break if weed is not that big of a deal then why would you give up a career in the NFL for it? I'm tired of the 10 cent head players. Dallas needs to get players who have dedication to the game who are willing to give all they have to win championships and get away from these morons who only care about a damn paycheck.

The thing is a large majority of them are doing it.. They just haven't got caught.

We just know about Irving publicly.

He's a knucklehead I agree.. He gave up a ton just to smoke and I don't believe he likes football. I also think a lot of pro athletes view football as a job and it's not something they love.

Regardless.. If the CBA changes and allows these guys to smoke then you don't pass on a talent like David Irving UNLESS you think he will have other issues that keep him off the field.

I don't care. You guys holler about Jerry and the culture of this team now want to bring back a problem player who flat out quit on this team? No way. I do think some players are here only for the paycheck yet I remember the story Irvin said about when he heard Jimmy was coming to Dallas. He got a list of names, names of players who were here only for a pay check and did not give a damn about winning or losing just getting paid and he gave the list to Jimmy and Jimmy got those guys off the team. I agree some do not care, it is a job but there are a lot of players who winning means a lot and those are the guys I want. Dallas must get away from idiots who continue to drag this team down.

IT's fine having a few idiots on the team. As long as they are talented..

At the end of the day this is football. I don't want my Quarterback to be a knucklehead.. If my defensive lineman has a few issues i'm ok with it. Just go get the QB.

Irvin played on a team with Charles Haley..

David Irving has proven that if he shows up then he is a force on the football field. That's all I care about.

If marijuana is what was holding him back and the league gives it a go ahead then why wouldn't you bring him back.

You would be surprised how many players there are like that. More than you think.

A majority of them are Millennials. As we know some Millenials are known to aspire to play Xbox and eat Cheetos all day while complaining about practically everything. Over celebrating for routine plays and defenses running to the end zone for pictures like 15 year children is the new face of the NFL. We all see it every game.

These same children want maximum money for minimum effort and care not for the game. It will surely lead to its demise. The employees are calling the shots, not the employer and will ruin the game. The NBA is in its slide due to this very thing. Some of us will continue to watch until it becomes unwatchable.

Thank God, Hockey still has men playing the game so at least there's an alternative

And for the record, I did say SOME, millennials........not all. No broad brush here.

This is interesting. Maybe David finally grew up. There is no point in requesting reinstatement if he continues to smoke pot because it will only get him suspended without pay again.

Irving was a free a free agent when he "retired" I am pretty sure. The Cowboys do not own his rights. If I was the Cowboys front office, I would talk to him, work him out and see what he has left. Why not? If he seems like he hasn't changed then let him go somewhere else. But if he wants to play and he still can play, then why not work him out and sign him. I cannot imagine he would be asking for much. When he wanted to play, he was a beast, especially at DE.

I wonder if he has been working out? If he's been lounging around smoking weeds he could not possibly be in football shape or anything close to it. But who knows, maybe he really has matured a bit.

Oh I know.. I'm not under the illusion that the NFL is full of football loving choir boys.

I would guess that easily north of 50% of players smoke Marijuana and I would also guess that easily north of 50% of players hate everything about football except for playing the game on Sundays.

Football is not a fun sport to play.. Especially for these big guys in the trenches.

I'm not ok when the action of players interfere with winning. Irvin has been very good when he plays the issue has been players missing more time because of injury and suspension than they have played. You put a team together and right before the season starts you end up in a hole because of the stupid actions of a player. Now you hit the streets looking for someone who can come in and fill the void for the next 2 to 4 games then the player has to get back into shape eating up another 2 to 3 games and in his case sustains an injury for another few games. We have a total of 16 games and each of those games are important and all the talent in the world is meaningless if you are not on the field playing.

Too me it is not just the weed that is the issue it is the player himself who does not give a damn and I'm tired of those players, if the game means that little to them then go play for Cleveland or some other team.

Bingo. He was an UFA when he got suspended indefinitely. Cowboys don't have any rights over him. Dunno who in the organization wanted to move on from him. Coaches, FO, all of the above?

He didn't like Garrett and now Garrett is gone, so there's that.

You guys act like as if enjoying a weed habit is akin to becoming a full blown meth addict.

Yet I'm sure there are many very successful NFL players that get completely hammered on booze a couple times a week, even during the season.

If he wants to come back on a cheap contract, IMO he should be allowed a chance to prove he wants to play.

The problem is he's got issues beyond just liking to smoke weed.

Therein lies the problem.

If the Cowboys want to give him another shot, fine. Personally, I wouldn't because I doubt he's changed his ways and I suspect it would also be a "hold your breath" situation with him waiting for him to do something stupid that would get him suspended.

I'm trying to win football games.. Great players win football games.

I agree and that is the problem. Once he is part of the 53 it becomes a lot harder to fill the spot once the season is underway. Dallas has been forced to do this way too often where because of suspension or injury you are looking to players who are on the streets to become an important part of your team. Cowboys must stop the practice of hanging on to problem players. Other teams tend not to tolerate it and those team tend to be winning

Yeah that is for Dallas to decide.. He's more then a year removed from all of that.. They need to find out where he is at today.

Agree. It's the league's antiquated rules on weed that costs players suspensions. If the league took the same hard stance toward tobacco and booze, then I'd have less of a problem with their stance on marijuana. As for Irving, I read a few minutes ago that he would be a Free Agent if reinstated...I thought Dallas retained his rights, but apparently not.
hey - there are some player who can smoke weed and it never bothers their NFL career.

aka - mark stepnoski.

i'm sure there are a TON of people out there who can manage their career *and* relax however they choose. however, players like irving and our other in and out of the weedhouse boy continue to show it's weed first, career needs to understand.

you wanna smoke, smoke. drink. do whatever it is you you think you need to do. but when it affects your overall career? you need to make better decisions. irving and gregory have shown they can't do that.

move on.

Dallas can't keep doing that, If it does not work out. After the draft and FA this is where we are looking for the talent and once the 53 is determined and the season starts it is hard to find decent talent. I'm trying to win as well, Pats are not hanging on to problem players, they will cut you. Cowboys have lead the league in suspended players and overall time missed because of suspension and it has to stop. You can't talk changing the culture on one hand and yet continue the practice of keeping problem players who know Jerry is not going to do anything to them, we continue to baby them and give them 4th and 5th chances. It is enough, Irvin is good there are a lot of other quality players out there. Irving is not that great of a player to allow his action to hurt this team.

We're in the overpaying QB market.

WE've invested in RB, QB, and WR... We're going to have to take some shortcuts somewhere.

I'd rather have David Irving out there then the next Nick Hayden or Trysten Hill.

Give me Quinn, Dlaw, and a motivated David Irving and we are working with something...

Prescott is the face of the franchise.. When you have a guy like Prescott or Aikman you can hide some idiots on the team.. Only fans like us will care about the teams defensive tackle and his personal decisions off the field.

I agree with everything you guys say about Irving.. He is a grade A knucklehead.. I just say let him play.

The Cowboys washed their hands of this pothead. They should stay away from him. He already quit once.

I think since they released him they do not have his rights anymore, he is a FA. He will sign elsewhere most likely.
I don't think it was he was just suspended as Gregory where he is still under contract.
I am not 100% sure on this though.

I want to address the DT spot and Dallas can do that, however making the same mistake over and over never seems to work out very well. I don't think David Irving is the only guy out there capable of playing DT I think there is a lot of young talent very capable of it.
