After a disappointing season and for a while now I have been looking for a player to hang my hat on .

Tired of just rooting for the laundry looking for a real football player to get behind and root for Sure I like Dak and Big Fred . We have players that put up numbers but I see no substance and have not for a while now .
We used to have players that were larger than life that impacted the team and the league, that struck fear in opponents . We have a good Oline but none of the could carry Larry Allens jock

Emmitt and Irvin . Roger , Tony Dorsett , the Manster , Haley , Bob Hayes Bob Lilly Drew Pearson

I compare Captain America throwing to The Fastest Man in the World to Troy throwing to Micheal Irvin then Dak to Im going to tap out or drop the ball at the worst time Cooper or Gallup .

Witten looked like Jackie Smith against the Eagles .

Other than Dak and Jeff Heath these guys just seem SOFT and hard to like , Is it just me or dose anyone else have this feeling

Amen. Its hard rooting for many of these guys as individuals. I basically just root for the uniform and the legacy it represents to me. I tell people on here all the time that I don't root for the players...........until they win something. Its just been a parade of interchangeable cogs for 25 years. I don't have a player jersey from any player that hasn't won a super bowl with the cowboys.

Larry Allen was a generational offensive lineman. Guys that big shouldn't be that athletic and strong as a bull.

I like Tyron Smith. Freak athlete that at his peak was along Joe Thomas as one of the best LT's of the 2010's.
Zach Martin is no Allen but he has been an all pro guy for 6 years. We got spoiled by great O-line play so when he's done we'll notice his absence.

I dunno, I don't fall in love with players but I don't find this team hard to root for.

Nobody in NFL history and except maybe 1 guy could carry Larry Allen's jock. Tyron Smith is special, Zack Martin is special, Fred Beard is special especially with his story Beard is an easy guy to cheer for. Larry Allen was only on 1 of those Super Bowl teams anyways. None are Larry Allen but Larry Allen is top 2 All Time.
NFL is different today. No players strike fear into the oppenant. These guys play for paychecks today and not so much for the love of the game. To me that's the biggest difference I think you're experiencing.
NFL is a far different league than it used to be. I hate what it has become. The biggest difference is that stats are more important than team success.

Time for a different approach.

Enjoy the ride.

We have coaches and discipline now. Players who have shown flashes, will now become consistent producers. Players who don't work/prep wont be here long.

Hero's will emerge. The TEAM will improve week over week.

I'm giddy.

When we had guys like Romo, Austin, Dez, TO, Marion Barber, Prime Witten, Prime Ware, Young Lee (he's still our best LB by far) you could get excited for them. You knew teams gameplanned around them.

Now it just feels as if teams put all eyes on Zeke and Lawrence and call it a day.

We have no idea what we have right now or if MM even has the authority to discipline without getting clearance from a Jones.

I went to buy my nephew a Cowboys jersey for Christmas. While browsing I realized there inst a player on the team I really like. (except Martin, Frederick, and Quinn whos jerseys arent available)
No jersey was purchased. Thanks Jerry for building such an unlikable / soft team.

Actually, Free Agency requires that all jerseys should start coming with velcro nameplates. In all sports

Case in point; all Dakota Jerseys will be on clearance after this upcoming season of playing with the Franchise Tag. Just the nature of the beast

I understand what you are saying. When I was growing up in the '70s, I saw many of the Cowboys players like superheroes. Certainly, Roger Staubach and Tony Dorsett were that for me. Then the '90s came and despite being an adult, that feeling happened again with the triplets. since that time I've lost that joy for specific players. The Cowboys are still my team but there is no individual that I root for. It's like B.B. King said, "the thrill is gone".

Free agency does have a big impact. A majority of players these days are playing for money, not because they love the game. We've only had a few players recently who seem to really love the game. You can tell that and it makes it easier to root for those guys.

Dak
Cooper
Zeke

It depends on what your requirements are for “root for”.

We don’t have any perfect players. But we also have a lot of likeable ones and a lot of good ones.

I think the difficulty in rooting for them is probably a side effect of 25 years of failure to even make an NFC title game. It’s been a brutal drought.

I actually enjoy routing for every one of the cowboys.
I see so many fans here decide to hate Dak, Zeke, Cooper, Witten, LVE, Jaylon, Tyron Smith ect....

This is just fans who are upset because they are not getting the results with the team they want so they need fingers to point and people to blame and hate.

This is one of the ugly sides of human nature. People feel powerless and emotional over things they have no control over so they find people to vilify.

It's a shame actually. If you went into almost any locker room in the NFL and actually sat down and enjoyed a meal with these guys you may feel differently.

My advice.... enjoy the ride. We don't know how many more we will get. This is just entertainment and its much more enjoyable if you don't take a hard cynical view on the players,

.

Just b/c a fan might not think Dak is capable of leading a team to the super bowl or worth 20% of the teams salary cap, doesn't mean they "hate" Dak. It means that that particular fan thinks the team will be better off going a different direction. If you interpret that as hate, that says more about your own thin skin than anything else.

Everything we discuss and argue about here is b/c we all love the Dallas Cowboys. It literally doesn't matter who wears the uniform. If Cooper played somewhere else next year, you still rooting for him? Of course not. You root for the next guy who takes his uniform.

There is nothing wrong with fans having opinions on players.
