It's ridiculously funny to me that some keep saying "take less"!!!! Would you settle? Less money for your family? Less money for a career that might be cut short with and injury! Less money for a team that will cut you as soon as you slip? What the hell?? I get it, salary cap....blah, blah ,blah. I wouldn't settle and I sure as hell don't blame anyone that would.

Sorry but you can't base this on common people when talking about a $33M/year contract with $105M guaranteed not including endorsement deals. Therefore, if winning means Dak takes a few million less then I guess that is what is important to him but if it's just the money he will hold out for the most he can get.

Winning doesn't cost you a few millions lol. Whatever they save from Dak taking some magical pay cut would be used on overpaying someone else lol. That's how this works.

I suppose that’s the point. Use that money to pay someone else.

Regardless, your employer of course needs to take the budget into consideration. NFL has a cap so they have limitations. Only goes to show you the amount of faith the FO has in Dak. I think that’s the biggest question, do they really think Dak is worth the money he is asking?

I do. I've taught for 25 years in a rural district. I've had opportunities to go to larger districts for more money, but my family and I are happy where we are.

I guess it all comes down to what makes you happy. If money makes you happy, then I guess you hold out for all you can get. If you enjoy your co-workers, community, and your job then I say it's not a big deal to take less than market value.

I would do exactly as Dak is doing, having his agent get every penny he has earned and more.

So winning doesn;t mean a team fitting the best players possible under the budget????? Okay, so then let Dak take all he can get and Dallas doesn't re-sogn Amari Cooper and eventually has to cut some of the o-linemen and see how good Dak is with all that money.

I'm fine with trading some of those linemen. I don't recall any of them taking pay cuts like you keep wanting Dak to do.

And the Cowboys have enough money to sign Amari and Dak. Its not a either or thing.

Yeah well that's a silly point. If they need to sign someone they can manipulate the cap and move money around to do so. Every team does it. Because in years past i've seen guys take pay cuts just for their organization to do something stupid with that money.

Dak has been the most underpaid player in the league the past 4 years. 40 wins while earning a total of less than 1% of the salary cap over that period.

He’s already taken less. Now is the time for more.

No player takes less on their first contract
Some have later in their career but this is his first shot at big money

Exactly. In the real world you can ask for all the money you want, doesn’t mean you’ll get it. You better be the next coming of Steve Jobs and even the. You still need a team to get your vision out there. We all know Dak needs a team right?

Not with salary cap management at anywhere near a professional level. Dak would make more money outside of football with a Super Bowl ring on his finger than he would getting 3 mill a year with multiple 9-7 seasons. Taking less to help the team as QB is more profitable than contract cash alone.

Well Dak can ask for whatever money he wants. Doesn't mean he'll get it either.

I can't answer that question because I make 27 dollars an hour as a toll collector. Every dollar I make counts. When someone is making 10s of millions a year, there is a different reason they want more. Besides that, what I'm being paid doesn't have a direct impact on me doing my job.

BTW. I used to make 33 an hour and took a pay cut to go to an easier job. But that's not really related.

No it would not. And he's my argument for that myth.

You know what happens when teams are under the salary cap? They spend money on free agents. Do you know what free agents are? Players other teams either don't want or don't feel they are worth what they are asking. So that's what taking a pay cut gets you. Either guys past their prime or players other teams don't want. You just can't build a team that way.

Now when you are pressed against the cap what do you have to do? How do you get better? You are forced to draft better. To take less chances. To not get cute. This is how you want to build a team. It is the model the Chiefs will eventually have to do in order to keep talent around Mahomes. Same goes for the Eagles and Rams.
