If Dak gets his contract, Jason Garrett still wins. The Cowboys will continue to struggle and Dak's fans will blame McCarthy.
When he is finally released, the franchise will never recover.
How doom & gloom of you. lol

You don’t know why? You must not watch the sports talk shows, they have been talking about this topic since last July/August and it’s been a main topic - not just something they glance over. Announcers talked about it every game this year, and this board is filled with a ton of Dak contract talk. I’m over it and so are a bunch of other people.

The negotiations are typical. All the talk about it is also typical in this day and age, especially for the Cowboys quarterback position.

I mostly avoid the talk because all I care about are the negotiations. The rest doesn't matter.
It might help your sanity to not get caught up in what sports talk shows have to say or a lot of fans who want to debate the subject.

I'm not saying we should give Dak a blank check but I wonder If being one of the highest paid qbs (35m a year or something like that) is really as significant and we seem to think. To me, that sounds crazy to pay him that but if the salary cap keeps rising and their are qbs like Mahomes and Watson about to get paid, maybe it's not as bad as it seems to pay Dak around 33-35 a year.

If Dak gets 35 and Mahomes and Watson get say 45, especially Mahomes who might even be the first 50m guy, then in one or two years his contract might not seem all that off for a starting QB.

Once again I'm not sitting here saying Dak deserves to be paid more then every other QB but I feel like the league and the way qbs keep getting more and more, sets things up to play out this way.

If we really don't want Dak, CALL CINCY and see if they want him in a sign and trade. THAT IS THE ONLY DEAL I AM WILLING TO DO. Otherwise, I am signing him. It guarantees us Joe Burrow if we lose him.

Sign and trade? This is the NFL...it doesn't work that way.

Yeah I could totally see how signing Dak to a 3-4 year deal would ruin football for all of eternity. Good post.

I wish Jerruh would just get it over with and make Duk the highest paid player in NFL history because you know that what's gonna happen. That way he can either show us he was worth it or we can bash the hell out of him everytime Dallas comes up short or just plain stinks it up.

Dak will say no.

Jerry will cave and we'll end up paying Dak the highest paid QB contract just like did with Elliott at TB.

For as brilliant a businessman as he is, he sure ain't the best at negotiating player deals.
Exactly . This is an ugly scenario and an ugly stretch of 2 years , over paying zeke , Dlaw , and now Dak and cooper . Weaker defense , mediocre inaccurate QB , and a stretched budget = no Super Bowls for another 3-5 yesrs with all that dead money . Just watch next year if this caving by Jerry continues this week .

Yep... We're signing away our Superbowl chances as it is with these contract offers.

Jerry is going to do exactly what I expected him to do..

Man you’re a grouch this offseason Catch. We have finally gotten rid of JG and you still like none of it. You need a hug bro?

OH we aren't winning a championship unless the CBA comes in and saves the day.

We're signing a player that isn't worth this kind of money..

By paying Dak the Cowboys are delaying their chances at a Superbowl.
With which other QB do you believe the Cowboys could reach a Super Bowl?

Im not going to sit back and applaud a move that puts us at such a disadvantage.

I learned my lesson from Romo’s contract along with looking around the league.

The QB market is stupid and you’re better off not participating in it unless your QB is actually elite. Even elite QBs aren’t overcoming their contracts.
