Well that’s just your opinion. Not at that price tag he's not. He's an average player at multiple spots (which is probably one of the reasons he never really developed - they kept flopping him between DT and DE). He's certainly not a starting RDE and right now, we don't have one of those.
lol...oveplayed by who? the guy plays all over the DL and is effective...lol that's not overplayed it's fact
I would like us to get Griffen! I think I’d feel better with him on our line. But I wouldnt cut Crawford if we got him, you can never have too many guys on the D Line, injuries happen all the time. But idk what they have planned, but he is overpaid
Does it?
But the question still remains, rather you want to admit it or not,, does anything in FA make this team better at this point?Yes.
Griffen is a RDE, which you have a clear hole at right now. Crawford is not. He's not a full time DE and he's largely going to be a backup DT.
Griffen, even at his age, had one of the higher pressure rates in the NFL last year.

Drafting wisely makes you better,, FA is merely a stop gap, not a model to build a franchise.
This is actually a bad way to look at it.FA is merely a stop gap, not a model to build a franchise.
Ironically the positions that the cowboys have struggled in recently (DT, Safety, TE) our actually arguably the 3 best postions for bang for your buck in free agency....... (lol).Yes, doing smart things in FA makes you better. That's the whole point of FA and teams that win use FA wisely. No one said "build a team" through FA. But when you have a clear hole like we do at DE and the draft itself isn't strong on DEs this year, taking a good veteran FA and adding him to the team makes a ton of sense. Griffen makes this team better.
I am baffled at your response. Are you suggesting that we should not add a good DE in free agency and just go with what we have and hope we find a good DE in a not so strong DE draft?
Yes, and I understand the value at the position or lack there of in FA and this years draft.Yes, doing smart things in FA makes you better. There's plenty of younger players that our ready to start NOW but won't break the bank (guys like Shelby Harris and Danny Shelton). Signing mid tier FA to multi year deals at positions of need (especially those that aren't draft heavy) is actually how you build a contending team.........
You can't draft all starting positions, you have to get outside help. I'm not saying go sign the best player of FA but there's plenty of quality starters at affordable prices.

I wouldn't restructure. That just pushes the money down the road, not lessen it.If you want to add Griffen and then restructure Crawford where his cap hit comes down significantly, fine by me.
Being proven and solid starters in the NFL.OK,, but your basing Harris and Shelton talent level off of what exactly? Just asking...
Yes, and I understand the value at the position or lack there of in FA and this years draft.
But I also understand when just spending money, throwing money at an issue that has no solution, is just a waste.
There comes a certain point, occasionally in which there is really no solution due to market options, and this year is the perfect storm.

Cause hes depth and can and have played a dl positions locker room guy and leader. Not at 9ml but his pay will be cut I'm sureCrawford is a $9.1MM cap hit this year and would save $8MM if cut.
He's not a starting player for us. Lawrence is the LDE, McCoy is better and likely the starter at the 3T, Woods is bigger and more able to hold up at the 1T spot and Crawford is not a RDE.
I don't think Crawford is a bad player by any stretch. He serves a purpose and is a capable backup. But that's all he is........... a backup. And when you watch this organization penny pinch the hell out of FA, it's strange that they seem content on letting a backup DL eat up nearly $10MM in cap space.
There are two starting caliber RDEs out there in Golden and Griffen. Clowney would be a third if you want to think big. We lack a starting RDE. Cut Crawford (Or even restructure and save 4-5MM in cap space) and bring one of them in. Crawford would not be hard to replace in FA as there are some backup caliber DTs out there.
I'd love to get a few JW Blues in Jerry and listen to him explain why they value Crawford that much.
I wont argue this point any further, and I bet that the Cowboys are done as well at this point in a quagmire of a FA season.Except Griffen isn't throwing money away. He was a good DE last year. He would be a good, short term solution.
Golden is another DE type that wouldn't break the bank and would upgrade the DE spot.
It's weird you think there are zero options in FA at the defensive end spot.
I would still keep him. With the new CBA and cap, we won't do much better for the money when you consider the 1+ million hit if we cut him. He is well liked and a locker room leader.According to this, he came off of IR on February 3rd.
